Athlete-turned-actor Rick Fox is to take a recurring role on the revamped Melrose Place, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The ex-L.A. Laker will portray a restaurant owner.

MTV greenlight '16 and Pregnant' spinoff

The MTV reality show 16 and Pregnant will itself have a child. According to Variety, the network has greenlit a spinoff called Teen Mom that will follow the teenagers featured on Pregnant as they cope with their first year of motherhood.

Marcia Gay Harden and House of Sand and Fog actress Shohreh Aghdashloo will star in the indie drama The No Game, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The film concerns a young Jewish woman who finds out that her biological mother is Palestinian.

3-D televisions to debut next year

At Berlin’s IFA technology trade show on Sept. 2, reps from Sony and Panasonic announced separately that their companies will unveil HD television sets next year capable of incorporating 3-D technology, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Panasonic expects at least 50 3-D movie titles to be available on Blu-ray or DVD by the time the sets launch, while TV channels like ESPN are already experimenting with 3-D programming.

Mehcad Brooks from 'True Blood' lands ABC series

'Big Momma's House' headed for third film at Fox

Fox is readying Big Momma for a threequel, with Randi Mayem Singer now on board to write the series’ second sequel. Variety reports that the plot for Big Momma’s House 3 is under wraps for now. The Martin Lawrence-starring Big Momma’s House was released in 2000, with Big Momma’s House 2 following in 2006. Singer’s credits include The Tooth Fairy and Mrs. Doubtfire.

Fox picks up cop show from 'Burn Notice' creator

Burn Notice creative/executive producer Matt Nix has lined up a 13-episode, hour-long series with Fox, The Hollywood Reporter reveals. Jack and Dan is about an ambitious, straight-laced police officer who is partnered with a wild-card, drunken partner. Nix said the show is “an action comedy cop show” that won’t follow the usual procedural style.

Colin Farrell, Cillian Murphy line up for 'At Swim-Two-Birds'

Colin Farrell, Cillian Murphy and Gabriel Byrne are set to star in the big-screen adaptation of Flann O’Brien’s novel At Swim-Two-Birds, Variety reports. Fellow Irish actor Brendan Gleeson will co-star and make his directorial debut on the project, which he also wrote. The story follows a 19-year-old playwright who sees his fictional characters intertwining with real people. That film’s Irish production company Parallel Pictures also has Liam Neeson lined up to star in its cover band story The Virgin of Las Vegas.

Madonna breaks top-grossing tour record set by ... Madonna

Madonna has set a new record for the top-grossing tour by a solo artist, reports Reuters. According to data from concert promoter Live Nation Inc. — with whom she signed a 10-year, $120-million deal in 2007 — the singer’s “Sticky & Sweet” tour raked in $408 million by entertaining more than 3.5 million fans at 85 shows. The previous record-holder? Madonna. In 2006, her 60-show “Confessions” tour banked $194 million from 1.2 million fans.  The “Sticky & Sweet” tour, which finished Wednesday in Israel, featured bigger venues and more dates.
