Lucy Prebble (The Secret Diary of a Call Girl) will adapt her play Enron for the big screen for Columbia Pictures, Variety reports. The play, which is currently at London’s Royal Court and will hit Broadway in the spring, tells the story of the rise and fall of the infamous Texas energy company.

John Malkovich is getting into the saddle for Secretariat, Variety reports. He will join the cast as jockey-turned-trainer Lucien Laurin. Diane Lane stars as the Triple Crown-winning horse’s unlikely owner. Randall Wallace is directing the drama for Disney.
Sony Pictures TV heats up new project from 'Rescue Me' co-creator
Sony Pictures TV, the company behind cable hits such as Damages and Breaking Bad, is booking deals with the major networks. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has landed commitments for hour-long dramas by Jack Orman, Kevin Falls and Josh Berman at ABC and Peter Tolan and Ed Redlich at CBS. Rescue Me co-creator Tolan is working on a project about an eccentric professor/detective, while Redlich’s The Remembrer is about a female FBI agent with a perfect memory, which helps her career but hurts her personal life. Orman’s drama Montagues and Capulets is about two feuding families in Chicago’s legal world. Falls’ Merrimac Circle is a mystery set in a Washington, D.C. suburb, where intelligence professionals question an enigmatic new neighbor. Finally, Berman’s drama is about two female homicide detectives. Sony Pictures TV also is planning series adaptations of two Sony library movies, St. Elmo’s Fire and Heathers.
Brad Pitt reportedly in talks for possible 'Sherlock Holmes' sequel
With three months still to go before the December 25 release of Sherlock Holmes, starring Robert Downey Jr. as Arthur Conan Doyle’s iconic detective, Warner Bros. has begun developing a sequel, according to the Hollywood Reporter, with Brad Pitt in talks to possibly take on the role of Holmes’ arch nemesis, Moriarty. Screenwriters Kieran and Michele Mulroney, who are currently working on a script for Warners’ planned Justice League superhero film, are said to be near a deal to pen the next Holmes installment. Pitt’s possible involvement in the Holmes franchise has been the subject of speculation for months, but, while he has met with the film’s producers, no deal is yet in place. Earlier this summer, audiences at Comic-Con were given a sneak peek at clips from Sherlock Holmes, directed by Guy Ritchie, which promises to give the venerable Baker Street crime fighter a big-budget, action-driven spin.
Coldplay copyright lawsuit ends
The Associated Press is reporting that Coldplay and guitarist Joe Satriani have apparently resolved Satriani’s lawsuit alleging the band used “substantial, original portions” of his 2004 song “If I Could Fly” in their 2008 blockbuster single “Viva la Vida.” Court records show that both sides asked a Los Angeles judge to dismiss the suit last week, but there are no further details about any possible agreement between Satriani and the band.
CBS loses attempt to dismiss Dan Rather lawsuit
Former CBS Evening News anchor Dan Rather enjoyed a victory today when a New York judge rejected CBS’s attempt to dismiss Rather’s $70 million wrongful termination lawsuit against the network, reports Reuters. The judge also set a Dec. 22 hearing in the case, and ordered that witnesses be deposed, including Viacom chairman Sumner Redstone, who controlled CBS when Rather alleges he was unlawfully fired in the wake of a controversial Sept. 2004 report concerning former President George W. Bush’s military service during the Vietnam War.
Nick Hornby to pen script for a baby-making movie
Novelist and screenwriter Nick Hornby (About a Boy) will write a screenplay for The Babymakers, an animated family film about creatures that create an infant inside a mother’s womb, reports London-based The Guardian. Hornby developed the project with London Times columnist Giles Smith, which will be produced by the same team behind the upcoming Hornby-penned film An Education.
Mya says she's 'fine' after glass injury
R&B singer and upcoming Dancing with the Stars contestant Mya took to Twitter to announce that she had to get stitches last night after a “deep cut from glass.” She followed up her initial post an hour later, explaining the injury was “[n]othing to worry about. Just an ugly slice on my finger — not the first time I’ve had stitches. I’ll be just fine.”
Netflix awards $1 million for plan to improve movie recommendation system
Netflix awarded $1 million dollars to a team of engineers, researchers and a scientist who came up with a plan to improve the company’s movie recommendation system by 10%. The winners, BellKor’s Pragmatic Chaos, beat out thousands of competitors in the Netflix contest, which the company first announced three years ago.
