Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein’s death has officially been attributed to accidental drug overdose, not suicide, according to the New York City Medical Examiner’s office. People.com reports that testing revealed that the celebrity DJ had several drugs in his system at the time of his death, including cocaine (it was not specified whether that was crack or powder cocaine), Levamisole (commonly used to cut cocaine), oxycodone, hydrocodone, Ativan, Klonapin, and Xanax. Medical Examiner spokeswoman Ellen Borakove would not say whether Goldstein held a prescription for any of the drugs in his system. Goldstein was found dead in his New York City apartment Aug. 28.

How does a person know if an overdose is accidental or not? That’s an awful lot of drugs for it to be an accidental overdose. I’m guessing this is just mainly to make family/friends feel better. I hope he’s at peace now, he was obviously very troubled.
I agree, and how does a person accidentally take so many drugs? There are no accidents. He purposely took those drugs, those drugs had a bad interaction resulting in his death. He died by his own hand, no accident about it. Sorry for the family but it doesn’t help to sugar coat it.
Intentionally taking drugs isn’t the same as taking them to intentionally kill oneself.
Determining if a death is accidental, a homicide, or a suicide is a coroner’s job. They will look at evidence found in the body and decide if there’s consistency with other deaths of the same type. These are official reports and aren’t sugar coated to make people feel better about their loved ones. Although, to be truthful, the ruling in this one has me confused. Maybe it’s because he’s battled drug addiction and that changes how many drugs one would expect to find in him and still consider it not a suicide.
oh , my heart is really broken. i lost the word what aim gonna say
ETHIOPIAN DJ
AM, MJ, Heath L… those are a LOT of drugs to have swimming around in your system at one time, no matter who you are.
How can having all that in your system be considered an accident?
Drugs (medications) are all metabolized by the body at different rates- Oxycontin & hydrocodone (opiates) can be detected in ones system for 3-5 days~ Ativan, klonapin, xanax & all benzodiazapines (which he was understandably prescribed after the crash to help ease anxiety) can be detected in the system for up to 7 days- So even though all these drugs were detected in his system doesnt mean he took them all at once- or even that day. Its also important to note he was prescribed all the medications found in his system- With the obvious exception of crack cocaine.
All these medications being found in his system DOESNT mean his death was a “sugar coated” suicide-He was prescribed the benzodiazapines to help deal with the anxiety he felt over flying after the crash. Due to his line of work he HAD to fly- He had a weekly show at Dusk in Atlantic City as well as one at Rain nightclub in Las Vegas & another weekly show “Banana Split Sundaes” in Hollywood~ Just to name a few. As I previously mentioned the body metabolizes those substances at different rates (between 3-7 days) so it doesnt mean he took all the meds that day. Its also important to note all the medications found in his body were prescribed to him. (with the obvious exception of crack & the additives it contained)
