F-bomb dropper Jenny Slate to remain on 'Saturday Night Live'

Categories: News, Television

NBC says that Jenny Slate, who now infamously said the F-word on this weekend’s Saturday Night Live premiere, will keep her job on SNL. The Sept. 26th episode was Slate’s first show as a cast member.

Good. I didn’t find the sketch all that funny, but she shouldn’t have to worry about losing her job over something as ridiculous as saying “the f-word” on live TV. At 12:42 A.M. I can’t believe it’s been this big of a deal…

    • anonymous Q

      I totally agree.
It was an unintentional flub…on her first episode.
      Give the girl a break.
If her skits are still unfunny after 3 weeks, then Lorne should do something about her.

    • Muffin Top

BTW, Slate was horrible. I cannot believe they got rid of Michela for THAT! Yikes. Lorne is one nut away from a coocoo platter.

    • ryan

you realize people have been fired for doing the same thing before right? You also realize one of the guys that got fired ended up killing himself.. right?

      • Mike

I highly doubt that the reason for killing himself was because of SNL firing him. He had a long, successful career afterwards. And to use his suicide as reasoning for firing this girl as well is highly irresponsible and presumptuous.

      • Sarah D

He killed himself almost two decades later, and he did get work after getting fired. Don’t be so dramatic.

      • leslie

If he killed himself because of that incident it would be the longest drawn out suicide ever. you do realize charles rocket went on to have a pretty solid career after don’t you? he was the villain in dumb & dumber. get your facts straight before you make a claim like that you moron

    • Michael Martinello

They should FIRE her!!! People fired Imus for much less…

      • Katie G

ok, well…not really. Imus was using offensive language AGAINST a group of people. Slate just let one pop up into the air.

      • mkk

WTF are you kidding me?!?!?!? I liked Imus but cmon youre talking an unintentional slip up not directed at anyone vs. saying something that was just plain hateful and unprofessional. Imus’s ‘flub’? WAY worse

  • Julie

I felt so sorry for her, you could tell she was embarassed! As many times as they were saying “freakin” it really was an honest mistake!

    • claudenorth

This happened before on SNL. Paul Shaffer (sp?) was in a sketch in which his character repeatedly used ‘friggin’ or ‘freakin’ and he slipped at one point.

      • Carole

SEE – it happened before – don’t you think the writers would have made sure that would not happen again …. it was on purpose – or the writers are a bunch of dim-witted bulbs who need to get back to school and re-take Writing Skills for Comedy 101 – they set it up to happen…

      • the L

Actually I read two other people have done it before one was Norm MacDonald and the other had a very strange name and was NOT Paul Schaffer…but the point remains the same and very true…it’s been done before…it will happen again I’m sure.

      • Jay

Charles Rocket was the guy who said it the first time.

  • chris

Who cares. Just cancel the show. It’s not funny anyway.

    • Maureen

      Agreed!

      • Mel

No way. I DVR it, but that late at night who is really watching TV?

  • Shasta

As far as I can tell, the fact that she used that word is the only way the season premiere of SNL even got in the news. So, SNL should promote her.

    • Danny

      Hahahahah, Shasta, well put.

      • Carole

SNL – it’s still on the air ?!??! – well they got the headlines – now people will tune in just to see who else has a shall we say “mouth malfunction” – @ julie – honeset mistake – you keep believing that and all will be right in the world….

      • mel

Carole where have you been? Yes it’s still on the air and got lots of headlines during last election. Wait, unless you meant it as in “Shouldn’t it be cancelled,” in that case, just say so.

  • PeterBilt The Nature Boy

Carole. You think she did that on purpose? You obviously weren’t watching.

    • Carole

I watched – and I do believe it was on purpose – if not by Jenny Slate – then for sure the writers of the skit – why else would you make the performers use words that are so, so close to other words – yeah right – they had to use the word “freakin” or “friggen” just so when said enough times – it just happened to “slip” out –
WHAT EVER – think what you want but I do think it was on purpose – it was on purpose, it was on purpose

      • to carole

You are an idiot. that was supposed to take the word of fuggin, that’s why it was in the skit. She just blew it. No big deal. You’re an idiot, you’re an idiot, you’re an idiot….

      • em

Repeating your assertion three times does not make it true.

    • Brian

Carole, you seem unobservant and out of touch with reality. There is no way Jenny’s going to go on TV and risk her JOB by bringing what could amount to tens of thousands of dollars in FCC fines to a network that just hired her and that would probably have no qualms about getting rid of her quickly. Furthermore, the writing for any TV show, even (and possibly ESPECIALLY) a live show like this has to clear several hurdles before it can be aired. No one wrote the F-word into this sketch. Don’t be daft.

      • Carole

you didn’t read my post carefully – they – the writers did not write the F-word – just something really, really, really close to the F word just so they could make their case that it was an accident – they got it – and they got the ratings and the attention here on EW and the rest of the internet – mission accomplished!

      • mel

        Carole you’re a moron.

      • dave

Carole, you’re an idiot. “They got the rating” – yeah, because anyone who wasn’t watching SNL got a call at 12:45 from someone who was, so they tuned in to the last 15 minutes of the show and the ratings skyrocketed. That makes a lot of sense. Carole, do you think before you say things?
Honestly I can’t believe how stupid some people are.

  • djm

Good lord Carole – conspiracy theory much? SNL does these types of skits all the time – the “Cork Soaker” skit with Janet Jackson comes to mind – and it’s bound to happen. And the fact that this is even a “scandal” (if you want to call it that – i am sure EW.com will be re-packaging it over and over and over again hoping it will become a bigger issue than necessary) is beyond lame. OMG – someone said a curse word on TV at 12:42am!!! That’s part of the problem with this country – people are far too uptight. Fox news will somehow have this linked to Obama by the end of the day.

    • Carole

      not the Prez – it’s all Glenn Beck’s fault…….

      • em

        Ha!

  • Samantha

I like Jenny slate.Shes much Funnier than Joy Behar of the view. Also Jenny slate is fun to watch.

  • Tracy

A comment of how uptight this country can be: I was watching The Matrix on A&E earlier Saturday and when the partiers come to Neo’s apartment, A&E cut out the line where the guy (thanking Neo) says “you’re my own personal Jesus Christ”. Not only is there nothing offensive in that line, but anyone who knows the symbolism in that film knows that line is critical. It just amazed me they felt that was too controversial to say. If this crap keeps up we’ll end up back with silent movies.

    • Mel

      AGREED!

  • Justin

all I can say on this is put Jon and Kate in jail and the kids in an orphanage……..kidnap the Kardashian girls so they will stop spreading diseases……don’t let that dumb blonde Elisabeth come anywhere near TV…….Have George Bush violently raped by a large bear in captivity…..I don’t see anything wrong with what happened on SNL in comparison to whats going on in the world…….ohh and don’t let me get started on Octomom or PETA….hate it

    • Mel

I agree with you as well!

    • Lauren

      LMAO!

  • Delon

I saw the show twice and didn’t catch the “F” word. I was completely baked both times. Maybe that was the reason? Her sketch wasn’t funny, but her face kinda was. Overall it was a decent premiere.

  • Tom

Remember when SNL was talked about for being funny? Yeah, me neither.

  • muhair

Who should lose their jobs are the writers for this once-great-now-pathetic show…..

  • me

Hopefilly she can act her way out of a paper bag and it will have benen worth it. I’ve seen and heard a lot worse on TV. Re:Caveman.

  • Jeff W.

Jenny Slate should be fired for being unfunny, not for cursing. Every one of us says the “F” word every day. The faux outrage over her slip up is ridiculous. This is the first SNL sketch I’ve looked at in a long time, having abandoned the show years ago due to it being terrible. This sketch only confirms my belief that SNL hasn’t been funny in many years.

    • Danielle

I have no problem with her slip-up but I would point out that not everyone uses the “F” word every day. Whatever vocabular you choose to use is entirely up to you but some of us don’t need to curse to get our points across.

  • meepos

It’s really annoying that people who don’t understand comedy are A.) calling for SNL to be off the air and B.) criticizing writers for intentionally using words that are so close to those four letter words you can’t say. That was the point of the sketch! Get a clue!
