Andy Warhol collection worth millions stolen in Los Angeles

Tags:

A high-priced collection of original work by Andy Warhol was stolen last week from a Los Angeles home, according to the Los Angeles Times.  The 11 large portraits known as “The Athletes” were discovered missing on Sept. 3 from the home of art collector Richard L. Weisman. There was no sign of forced entry into the home and nothing else had been disturbed, including several other Warhol pieces,  according to police.

Police have no immediate leads or suspects. A $1-million reward has been offered by an anonymous source for information leading to the recovery of the art. The collector, a former investment banker, was friends with Warhol and commissioned the 11 brightly colored silk screen paintings of famous sports figures.
