Actress Maura Tierney drops out of NBC's 'Parenthood'

Actress Maura Tierney is dropping out of the NBC series Parenthood, citing a scheduling conflict between the show’s production and her treatment for breast cancer, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The series, which is based on director Ron Howard’s 1989 comedy, was originally scheduled to premiere this month, but the shooting schedule was pushed back earlier this summer when the former ER star was diagnosed with breast cancer. The role will now be recast and the series is expected to launch after the February 2010 Winter Olympics.

In a statement, Tierney’s spokeswoman said, “Maura Tierney regrets that she will not be able to continue her role on Parenthood due to a conflict with the production schedule of the show and her breast cancer treatments.  Ms. Tierney and her doctors remain confident that the outcome of her treatments will be positive. She is deeply disappointed that she will not be able to rejoin such a highly respected, talented, fun and funny group of actors and wishes to thank [executive producer] Jason Katims and NBC for their patience and support.”

NBC added in a statement: “While we are saddened that Maura Tierney won’t be able to continue in her current role in Parenthood, our main concern is for her quick and full recovery. Our thoughts and best wishes are with her.”

That’s too bad and I”m sure the producers must be upset too. I wonder if this means reshooting stuff totally with a different actress or writing her out. The important thing is to wish her well in her recovery.

Absolutely sad. I was looking forward to having her back in prime time; but, if this is what it will take for her to recover, then so be it. My best to her on a speedy recovery.

I don’t really care about the show but this is bad news. I wish her well.

Ohhh. So sad, on so many levels. Wish her only the best — loved her recently on Rescue Me and was looking forward to seeing her on Parenthood (which I’ll still watch, it has a great cast and I have high hopes for it). Good luck to you, Ms. Tierney!

First and foremost I hope things go well with her treatment. It is too bad we won’t have her gracing our screen this fall but her health is obviously more important. Good luck Maura!

Maura Tierney is one of those actresses that, for years, i’ve always wished she’d have more work in the spotlight.. i mean, she’s the one that got me to watch ER again after a few years of it sucking..
My thoughts and prayers are with her..

My best wishes to Maura for a successful fight. I’m sorry that I won’t be able to enjoy her work for a while longer, but taking care of herself is the most important thing.

This is such a shame, looked like she was going to do a great job on this show just like most of her roles. Best of luck Maura, I hope you can get back to work soon.
