Janet Jackson will be appearing MTV’s 2009 Video Music Awards on Sunday, Sept. 13. Jackson will be opening the show with a tribute to the career of her brother Michael, according to a press release from MTV.

Now this should be a tribute fitting of his talent only she can do it right and respectfully
I’m looking forward to it. She wasn’t the most talented Jackson, maybe not even the second most talented. But she’s always been the most likeable. I always thought of her personality as similar to Michael’s. She has all of his goodness. It should be a very moving tribute.
Janet was the only one who tried to get him into rehab. She has a good heart.

Thank you Janet! I have always thought that only Janet could do Michael’s solo career music the proper justice. Her voice is so similar to his. She adored him and will bring that house down with her performance. I can hardly wait! I certainly will be able to put all this to rest once I see her tribute.
I will be bawling! Just when I think I’ve got it in check! It almost makes me not want to watch for fear of losing it again like I did at the Memorial. Then I cried myself to sleep. And I know this is EW and there is not much sympathy for emotions outside of watching Saving Private Ryan,but I just miss Mike.
awwww…I couldn’t have said it better myself!!!!! I will be overly emotional too. Just thinking about Michael and how awesomely wonderful and completely irreplacable he was, and I nearly lose it! I don’t know if I can go watch “This Is It” for the fear that I’ll pass out in the theatre. Michael…I just can’t stop loving YOU!
This is fitting since Michael Jackson and MTV was a dynamite relationship. Michael Jackson’s music videos both launched MTV, and helped his career take-off. However, I do think that this is really an indication that MTV is increasing irrelevant to today’s younger crowd. Both Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson’s are ancient history.
When Madonna was not yet a superstar, they had Bette Midler back then. They invited Mick Jagger and other veteran pre-MTV artists. The VMAs is not about relevance. It’s about controversy.
