What is this “Twilight” you speak of? I have never heard about it. I think you should, maybe, write more about it.
dude, are you serious? please tell me you are joking…
Of course I am joking.
How many awards shows is this franchise going to ruin? It already turned the MTV Movie Awards into a joke (more so than usual), and now it’s taking over the VMAs? Thank God the only awards shows it’ll ever have anything to do this are fixed ones on MTV.
I wonder how many teenage girls are going to “discover” Death Cab through the New Moon soundtrack the way they did Muse a year ago. *rolls eyes*
Oh please don’t let that be the case!! As much as I would love for Death Cab to get great recognition, I would rather it not be from the ‘Twi-hards’. They have already corrupted the Muse fan base!
You ought not to be (alternative) music snobs. I’m sure Muse and Death Cab are grateful to any new fans they amass (like any band they are out to make money, they do not have a higher calling). Twilight fans have as much right to be exposed to great music (as introduced by Twilight soundtracks) as whoever you think “deserve” to be Muse and Death Cab fans. These bands were not forced to be included in these soundtracks.
WELL SAID.
It’s not that these girls are getting exposed to decent music. It’s that they hear Muse or Death Cab or whatever, and act like these bands exist in a Twilight vacuum. Like Muse didn’t exist and didn’t sell out stadiums before they had one mediocre song on the Twilight soundtrack. THAT is what hacks fans off. “Oh, thank God Stephenie Meyer gave Muse her seal of approval, otherwise they’d be nothing.” Yes, I have heard girls say this before. It’s sickening. If they want to make money off the backs of Twihards who’d buy ANYTHING with Pattinson’s mug on it, that’s fine. More power to them. But I’m not fooled into thinking these girls would give a crap about bands like Muse if the Twilight promotional cult hadn’t told them to. They’re sheep.
Thank you James. Exactly my point. And I’m not an alternative music snob thankyouvermuch.
Why would you even care what Twilight fans think of Stephenie Meyer’s effect on Muse’s album/ticket sales? I’m sure she has caused their album sales to go up in North America. They are an arena band mainly in the U.K. And if you read reviews of the soundtrack album on Amazon, there are alot of Twilight fans who hate the soundtrack. They are not sheep who love everything associated with the movie. I still think it shows a snobbish attitude when people say that others are not showing the proper “respect” towards bands (who previously had a limited following) that they may have come to know after a soundtack has come out. I remember similar outcries after John Hughes movies came out in the eighties(eg. concerning the Psychedelic Furs and the Pretty in Pink soundtrack). A movie soundtrack can be a great vehicle for introducing lesser-known bands to a wide audience, which obviously means that some of that audience will think that the band barely existed before said soundtrack. It’s no biggie. Let the comments roll off your back and just be glad that the band is gaining a bigger following, and will therefore be putting out lots more albums.
I’m a huge Twilight fan, so I’m excited about this. It’ll be nice to see an extended trailer. Hopefully this movie will actually be good, unlike Twilight.
I totally agree! New Moon is my favorite book of the series. The descriptions of Bella’s pain were incredibly powerful, visceral, and intimate. I hope that the movie is able to do the book justice…unlike Twilight.
I’m excited for the trailer.
I also LOVE Death Cab for Cutie so I can’t wait to hear the song
I agree with you. The first movie did not do the book justice, but I’m super excited about “New Moon”. I went to film school and I work with actors every day, and while watching “Twilight”, I could tell that Kristen, Robert and others looked lost a lot of the time, like they didn’t know where to go or what to do… the result of little or no direction! Actors give what the director wants; they don’t just magically perform perfect scenes. Catherine Hardwicke even admitted in the commentary she did not storyboard some scenes and they did some scenes in 1 take (I could also tell THAT from watching it. IT LOOKED HORRIBLE!)
I’m sooo happy they got a different director for “New Moon” and from what I’ve seen so far, Chris Weitz has done an awesome job and I can’t wait for 11/20.
Just remember people: never judge a book by it’s movie
I hope this “extended trailer” will be different from the one released with “Bandslam.”
It’ll probably be the same trailer except maybe with Taylor’s commentary taken out and some short clips put in instead? They’ll probably throw limited new stuff in.
i can’t wait it’s gonna be so much great to see new moon esprcially with chris weitz it’s so obvious that he has done a great job by staying faithful to the book.
I enjoyed reading Cheryl Lynn’s observations about the quality of the film Twilight and agree with her. I also think the production company is risking over exposure with the film series. I feel turned off by all the crazy marketing of dolls(?!!), chocolate, make-up, clothes, calendars and constant speculation on Robert P and Kristen S.’s personal relationship.
However, I do like that I am hearing new music that I wouldn’t have known about before the Twilight phenom.
1. Browse a music store.
2. Plug in bands you like in iTunes and see what similar artists pop up.
3. Ask your friends what they’re listening to.
4. Watch music videos on MTV or VH1 occasionally.
5. Listen to a local radio station that plays your favorite genre of music.
6. Check out music magazines and see what bands they’re writing about. Rolling Stone has a knack for picking out talent way before they break out.
7. See what’s big in other markets, particularly the UK. I’m sure a lot of Brits were baffled by “that new band” Muse, when Muse has been major over there for years.
8. Browse the Billboard charts and see what albums are consistently on top.
9. Watch variety or late night shows like SNL, Conan, Letterman, etc. and see what acts they feature.
10. Keep an eye out on iTunes promotions like Free Single of the Day or their Back to School promotions. I’ve gotten hundreds of FREE songs this way, just because they wanted exposure.
There are 10 easy, reasonably cheap ways to “hear new music” that doesn’t directly require you to be a Twihard.
One more sh*teous trailer? Ok. Bring it. I just hope Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and Pattinson had had some acting classes this time. :/
Since when does anyone have the right to dictate the right way to “discover” music, art or literature. Exposure can come in many forms…don’t be so limiting.
K, did you not read what they wrote? It’s not that they’re discovering Death Cab or Muse or whatever through Twilight. It’s their attitude about it. Read and try to comprehend James’ post. He summed it up perfectly.
Don’t be so rude. I’m sure you get the gist of what this person is saying. And they’re right. People are jumping to some hasty conclusions about the music and the people who listen to it. I don’t see the bands complaining – and aren’t they the reason you’re even interested? Who cares why people like them. They’re getting exposure and that’s all that matters. And if a handful of people commented on how the bands were nothing before Twilight – who cares?? Is it affecting you? The music is suppose to be what matters right? Grow up.
Personaly, I am very excited about this. But, MTv is using the Twilight fans to get more ratings which is annoying. They know pretty damn well that their ratings will soar up! plus dont you guys remember there was a sneak peek of the first movie at the VMAS last year so it is just a tradition. I find it sad that just because this series has become to wildly popular, there are lot of haters. Before nobody heard about it and I am the early devoted fans who read the books the year it came out and fell literally in love with the series. I didnt read it because everyone was reading it I read it before it became hugely popular. But it is sad that when ppl see something or others making it big there is an instant hatred due to the person of the things popularity. I am just saying. I tend to be a good observer and this is one of my best observation so far.
We balance each other out, Valeria. I read all four books (the things I do for my friends) before the movie came out, and despised them. Not everyone is a “hater” just because it’s popular. Some of us can recognize garbage hack fiction pretty easily…and early.
well im a huge twilight fan!! i cant wait for new moon..althoough im really sad to read that some people think that being a twilight fan is something bad!! being a fan of the books you like there is nothing wrong with that or the fact that i going EVERYTHING!! related to those books. i cant wait for the calendar, post cards and christmas cards that are going to be coming out soon,, GO TWILIGHT FANS!! and GOOOO TEAM EDWARD!!!
Thanks Kenny, your ten suggestions for finding new music are spot on. I will follow your advice.
I have enjoyed the Twilight Saga and the film interpretation of Twilight. The discussions are fun and bring up creative exchange of ideas. Someone is putting out creative effort and expressing themselves while you and I sit at home passing judgement and watch. I’m guessing that most artists want to be recognized for their work and are thankful for the people who appreciate their talent no matter how they came to know them. It does not diminish them or their gift.
hi,i’m really excited for new moon
