Congrats Danny! Can’t wait for the cd!
Oh look! One person actually gives a crap.
LOL. I was wondering how long it would take for EW to post this, and who would do it. Not surprised that it took 48 hours(about 44 hours longer than reporting that The Rocker got a deal). Also, not surprised that Slezak wasn’t the one reporting.
I thought things were cool between MS and Gokey …
Maybe it’s because Michael reported on this several days ago and you missed it

In other words – they strong-armed him until he gave up the idea of trying to be a pop star, but he dug in and refused to go Christian pop – so they all compromised and stuck him on the country label.
…and then you took your tinfoil hat off.
Seriously, get a hobby or something.
Shocker. Danny Gokey signs for the one genre nobody gives a crap about. Oh, sorry, there are two genres nobody gives a crap about if you include gospel. Either way, he’s screwed.
What are you talking about “no one cares” about country and Christian music? Country has, for decades now, one of the top selling genres with acts selling out venues all over the continent! Gospel may not be as mainstream as other genres, but with successful artists and radio stations all across the nation playing this type of music, one is hardly able to say that “no one” cares about it.
I think James was not talking about good country music. He was talking about the kind of country music Gokey would sing – which is frankly too “pop”py to be considered real country. Gokey is a big fail, though. No other genre would have him.
Congratulations, Danny. Good luck.
I was wondering when EW was going to announce this! Congrats, Danny! Can’t wait to hear what you produce!
Dear Aunt Gokey,
Learn how to spell “won” before insulting…it just might help get your point across….even if there isn’t one were listening to or reading
pookie: this is not approval of Aunt Gokey by any means, but, you were a victim of your own critique:
Dear Aunt Gokey,
Learn how to spell “won” before insulting. It just might help get your point across. Even if there isn’t one worth listening to or reading.
Better.
haha…ironic and funny….I admit
Dear Pookie,
Learn how to spell “we’re” before insulting…it just might help get your point across…and make you a more qualified defender of the English language.
Hahaha. Agreed! Everyone stop slamming each other’s grammar and spelling if your own isn’t any better. It doesn’t help your case any.
I am not a Gokey fan in any way but I’m glad that those of you who are fans are going to be able to get an album by your favorite. I hope you’ll all be very happy.
I agree with you Peyton. It really gets on my nerves when someone corrects someone’s grammar. Hell correct mine I don’t really care. I am on here to say congrats to Danny! Took RCA long enough to grab that talented singer, but country? Don’t put Gokey in a box, his soulful voice should be heard, don’t make him into what he might not be.
I’m not a Danny Gokey fan either but I too am happy for those of you who are too.
We need Danny’s music now more than ever, to get us through this horrible Age of Obama. And I can prove Danny was born in America.
I love Obama and Gokey. Put that in your gun and cock it….hahaha.
Wow! You need serious help. EW, please take that message down.
seriously, you’re still around?! I’m ok with loving your favorite, but if you can’t be respectful, I don’t want you posting.
Then it’s a good thing you don’t get to decide who posts.
Was that directed at me James? Are we in freaking Highschool again? Why does it matter the grammar used here? If you understand what is being written, does it matter how it was written? Get a life people.
If you go to a message board looking for either civility or grammar… wow. Short fall from the turnip truck, I hope.
Q: Knock knock?
A: Who’s there?
Q: Danny Gokey!
A: Danny Gokey who?
Q: Tough business, isn’t it?
L.O.L!
That’s actually very funny. I’d be laughing hysterically right now if I were capable of expressing emotions.
Country? I didnt know that Danny was a country singer… kinda disappointing since I am not really a country fan but I will still check it out. Congrats!
Yeah, even though I’m a big fan of Danny I was a little disappointed, too. But he has said that it’s not going to be traditional “twangy” country. So who knows? Maybe it could really work for him. I’m still definitely going to pick up whatever he makes.
I think hell just froze over
Could you go back there and check for us?
W.W.D.G.D.? – What Would Danny Gokey Do?
Answer: who cares?
Obviously many of the people that visited this blog entry.
Ben, clearly.
Well, I thought it was clear to all sentient beings, too, but clearly this dumb kid didn’t get it!
It’s about time! Hope he does well and hope he gets a good stylist and listens to her. He’s got the voice, but needs good choreography and better styling – then the sky’s the limit.
I think you mean NO choreography…
Indeed. Dude can’t dance (sorry grammer police!)
Clearly the best singer of the season. It’s about time.
@Chris: If Danny Gokey was “clearly the best sing of the season” as you say, then why did it take so long for someone to sign him? I am very happy for Danny, he is a great singer but he wasn’t the best one. Now why are they cornering him into country? Danny has a soulful voice, why not R & B? Or anything besides country? I wonder if Danny was railroad into this or if he is happy about it? I guess being sign is better than not.
GOOD LUCK DANNY!:)
He has known about his now-announced deal for a few months now. He’s been hinting at it since early this summer and has mentioned several times that he can’t announce anything about it yet for reasons that he couldn’t explain.
Why are people so down on Country? Do you think Carrie Underwood has somehow been hindered by the genre? I’m not a Gokey fan, but there is plenty of potential for success in country.
Well, I’m glad Gokey has fans, but in what universe was Gokey the ‘best’ on last season? Very clearly, the voters disagreed… loudly.
Yes it was loudly, because Danny was the only contestant to never be in the bottom three until Paula gave him a mediocre song choice.
Yeah, in a world where children are allowed to vote as many times as they can, Kris Allen wins. In a world of adults, Danny Gokey would have won…
