Next 'Halloween' to be in 3-D

Tags: ,

If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. After watching his Halloween II get spanked by The Final Destination in 3-D this weekend, Weinstein Company co-chairman Bob Weinstein told the Los Angeles Times that the next chapter in the Michael Myers saga would be in 3-D, too. New Line’s The Final Destination handily beat Weinstein’s Halloween II this weekend, pulling in an estimated $28.3 million to snag first place at the box office, while Halloween II came in third (behind TWC’s own Inglourious Basterds) with $17.4 million. Weinstein also said that Halloween II‘s director, Rob Zombie, would not be returning for the tentatively titled Halloween 3D.

  • Matt1

    LEAVE IT ALOOONE!!!

Sorry the fact that it wasn’t “3D” didn’t lead to the spanking, the fact that bad word of mouth from people at the midnight and early friday showings did. Frankly this movie was a mess, the “plot,” was terrible and it was not even close to scary. Sorry Rob, the first one was great this was god awful.

first of all, poor studio planning. why release a Halloween movie TWO months before the holiday?? People are still thinking SUMMER. at least wait til the end of September. What Einsteins!

I think O am right but could be wrong, I do however beleive the first rob zombie halloween movie opened the same weekend two years ago and was the number one movie at the box office.

I heard from a local movie theatre executive that they released Haloween 2 now because they were scared of the Saw movies which are released Haloween weekend.

My daughter and I saw Halloween 2 yesterday, SAVE your money! one of the worse movies I have seen in a long time. The first remake was good, this was a mess. 3D will not help. I will not be seeing Halloween 3………..

    • CJ

dude you brought your daughter to see H2? axe murdering, stabbings, throat slashings. Nice parenting skills buddy.

      • john t.

we don’t know how old Cat’s daughter is. for all we know she could be over 18. don’t jump to conclusions before knowing all the facts buddy.

3D wont help but it sure as will help that Zombie wont be in it. I do honestly believed the first remake was excellent but this one I think Zombie did it for the money and as usual he had to have his shitty acting wife. I mean she had no reason to have a BIG part in this movie.

but ew said it was over, looks like your opinion is trash ha ha

    • chris

EW was right. There is no way 3 will be made. When it drops out of the top 10 next weekend the final nail will be nicely jammed in place.

    • t3hdow

Just because the studio is too quick to crank out a sequel (and a 3D one at that) doesn’t mean you should automatically dismiss Chris N.’s opinion as trash. It’s STILL a bad idea, and it won’t result in heavy returns. Besides, it’s not like The Final Destination was a smashing success either. $17 million vs. $25 mil shouldn’t influence a movie franchise’s future.

      • mR.iNsAnE

First, your right….a movie franchise’s future should be influenced by and franchise, that leads to a whole other type of bad horror movie…I will be seeing this film, only because I enjoy horror films (sometimes bad ones more then good ones) so I’ll see it.

Second….Final Destination is a milked franchise, they honestly could have stopped at movie number one, I draw the line at two….so if it has sunken to the point that franchises are influenced and altered by other franchises…then the dawn of DVD alone is coming.

Finally…the idea of 3D films is dumb, for family films its fine…but I personally feel that 3D horror films are the worst thing to happen to the genre since the trend of PG-13 horror films…if this is the end of Halloween for now….let it die in 2D!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Jeff W.

So much for EW’s proclaimation that the Halloween franchise “is over” as stated in another article on the front page.

  • Jen

I saw both this weekend, and Final Destination 3D was actually worse than H2. (an F- vs a D+) Filmakers gets to lazy with 3D movies, it’s all about the special effects and zero plot

    • Renee

I saw Final Destination and if it wasn’t for the fact that the movie was in 3-D I wouldn’t have gone and seen it. It really wasn’t worth the money that it was. From what I have seen Rob Zombie has done his job. yes the movie came in number 3 in the box office but at this point in the season you really don’t expect a “HALLOWEEN” movie to come number 1 and putting it out closer to Halloween wouldn’t have worked since they have Saw 6 coming out on the 23rd of October OH YEAH for that one NOT….

  • Alyssa

I would save your money and go to Inglorious Basterds. That is one of the Tarantinos best movies. I loved it. Way better than these two, Im sure and from the sound of it. Halloween should have been left in the past in the first place.

    • mR.iNsAnE

LEAVE TARANTINO OUT O THIS! This is a purely horror subject, Ingorious Bastards was a near masterpiece, but it makes no sense to drag a war film into the horror topic. No offense, but your might not want to bring up a different kind of film into the mix when the topic deal with a polar difference. ;)

  • Joe

Oh come on – who doesn’t say crazy things when you’re drunk? I’m guessing Weinstein was. I loved the original and H20, but it’s time to put this series to rest.

  • jeff

Please- Tht’s my favorite Movie. NO MORE REMAKES OF HALLOWEEN!

    • Renee

They need to keep the franchise going but not in remakes they need to have an actual part 9 and then a 10 and so on and so forth. Michael Myers needs to be killed by family that is the only way that he can die. It will happen… And THEN the series will come to it’s final resting place.

      • Todd

I couldn’t agree more. They have to back to the original Halloween series. H8 ended with the possibiliy for another sequel. So what the hell are they waiting for? The need the wrap up the original series first. And Don’t RETCON it again!! ( I actually have an idea for a Halloween 9)

  • Mike Reyes

Rob’s first remake was awful. A blasphemous re-imagining of the king of all horror movies. What were they expecting the sequel to do? Wait a while and let it be redone right by the director of the Friday the 13th and Texas Chainsaw remakes. At least they’d be done respectfully.

    • Renee

DUDE the Friday the 13th remake sucked I didn’t like it at all and I LOVE all the Friday the 13th movies. I think we should have a Freddy vs Michael LOL…

    • mR.iNsAnE

WTF? Those remakes go against all that is holy in the ream of horror films….I saw Friday the 13th the opening day, on my birthday….the film caused more pain then the wisdom teeth that were pulled the day before….and Texas Chainsaw…yeah, no!

  • james

Why are they advertising this movie as the final chapter? Ridiculous. Also insane is opening 2 horror sequels on the same weekend, when there were no horror movies in site. They both lost at least 5 million on opening weekend. Glad Final Destination won out.
