FX’s Rescue Me will end in 2011, with a final 19 episodes to come, Variety reports. The Denis Leary firefighter drama will finish its run ten years after the Sept. 11 attacks that inspired it. The current season ends Tuesday, and production on the final episodes will begin in September.

Sad to say, but it’s probably about time. Absolutely LOVED the first couple seasons, but then it started to get really repetitive and tired.

aww thats so sad. this season was awesome def a sterp up from the lackluster season 4

I’m very sad to hear that. It is one of the few series I watch. However, Tommy’s bag of tricks has lost steam and it looks like the ladies are shopping elsewhere.

The first two season were awesome then the show started going into left field but this season has been great! The addition of Larenz Tate has been is satifying. His first season on the show I thought he was going to play the angry Black guy but thankfully this season he has been good. He is so funny and Black Shawn’s relationship with Tommy is so funny. The last episode was genius. The fight with the lesbians cracked me up. To see Tommy’s uncle pick that woman up and swing her around had me rolling. But Sheila is starting to annoy me because she is too crazy. There is nothing left for her to do.

Why would they start production in September for eppys not airing until 2011? Is it ending next year or is there a season 5 next year and a final season 6 in 2011? Or do we have to wait 1.5 years for another season? The last time you posted that an FX series was ending, you effed it all up so I was wondering if you did here too.

This season has been an improvement over the last, but it’s still been meandering and unfocused. Perhaps 21 or 22 eps is too many. Maybe 19 is as well? Why not a very focused 13?

  • I think FX is doing Rescue Me like Nip/Tuck; they’re going to film the episodes and then schedule them at different times. I think Nip/Tuck is airing January 2010 and January 2011 to finish their run. Perhaps something like that for Rescue Me, i.e. airing 10 episodes summer 2010 and 9 episodes summer 2011?

I started out really liking this series, but this season has really turned me off. It’s too drawn out, predictable, and I’m kind of tired of Tommy Gavin being the exception to all the rules–enlightened drunk, righteous drunk, sexy drunk, and hero drunk. It used to be original, now it’s just pedestrian.

Well it takes time to prep the scripts and also the availablity of the actors themselves who maybe on tight schedules and have a very limited window of opportunity. Maybe Denis Leary is starting something new around this time which would also make sense. Perhaps there could be a FX Movie to completely end the show as a tribute to 9/11’s tenth anniversary. This was probably was all planned this way by Leary and Tolan and sad to see it end.

Glad it’s ending. Because it was off the air nearly 2 years, the current season was way too long and repetitive. A good show that wore out
    its welcome.

Oh, no – televisions biggest ego trip is ending? How else will the ugly Denis Leary live out his ridiculous fantasy of every woman who crosses his path falling in love with him?

  • Britt

Sad!! This show is awesome. Its a shame it will end so soon.

I luv this show hope Tommy Gavin has a great and happy ending.

I watched the show from the beginning on DVD during the past year, which is a great way to take in the masterful first three seasons and, unfortunately, is a way to become acutely aware of the decline in story telling and the dulling of the characters. Except for the Michael J. Fox arc this year, and the Gavin’s hilarious trip to Katie’s private school, there has been nothing really new or fresh since the end of Season 3.
