Actress Mischa Barton, 23, spoke to Time Out New York this week about the involuntary psychiatric hold she was placed under last month in Los Angeles.
Says the star of the CW’s upcoming The Beautiful Life, “Here’s what happened: Before the show started, I was traveling abroad for contract stuff and I went through a terrible surgery—a wisdom tooth surgery, all four removed. It was a nightmare. I’ve never had surgery before—it all went wrong and I had to have a second surgery and it almost delayed shooting because it was a nightmare to me, because I couldn’t deal with the thought of not getting there on time. So with the travel, and surgery and prep for the show—it was hell.”
“I went through a tough spot where everything compounded on me, and it was like a perfect storm, like everything was happening to me at once. The show, travel and then this fairly routine surgery that went wrong,” she continues. “I was down in the dumps about everything there for a while. Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom about things and have to get the most stressed-out just to feel better again. I got completely stressed-out and couldn’t handle everything, and now I feel really in control.”
As for The Beautiful Life, for which she’s shot four episodes, Barrton says: “I’m ready to work … The show will speak for itself. It’s a great show.”
Really?!? Mischa Barton, it was wisdom teeth surgery? Really?!? No gets put under an involuntary hold in a psych ward for that, you have been in this business since you were nine years old, should you not be used to a little stress of a new show and some commercials overseas, get your stuff together. Geez
Yeah, normally I can give the benefit of the doubt, but an involuntary psych hold because of dental surgery, even bad dental surgery? And let’s not forget the HELL of all expenses paid, first class, someone else is schlepping your luggage, getting you to the hotels, taking care of off the arrangements for you, european travel? The reality is she owes NO one an explanation, but if she’s going to go to trouble of offering one, she needs to come up with a better story (the truth always works) or go back to acting class.
Poor Misha. How sad. My son had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled. He also had a tumor in his leg that required 2 major hospitaliztions. These did not include a trip to the loony bin. maybe because he wasn’t also on drugs and alcohol.
I thing mrs. micha is so unlucky too have surgarey and too have that happening to her as well. we all have stressing in our lifes but we do not have the papparahzi in our face at every time. I feel so badly for her. I wish her all best in being normal once again.

Oh really Misha? I would think by now you would be used to the fame and all that goes with it. Lets face it your basically a d-lister now so its not like you have been busy with work. Let’s now pretend anymore. Really your drug and alcohol problems are to blame. Quit passing the buck and own up to your problems, only then will you really get better.
This in addition to about a boat load of cocaine is probably closer to the truth. She is product of the bad PR machine of lately of flat denial of the obvious truth.

We should have more sympathy. Some people are much more sensitive to stress & Anxiety than others. Celebrities tend to have a much higher incidence of PYROLURIA. It creates Anxiety & self esteem issues which strongly draw them into show business for reasons of self validation. They need the applause to feel good about themselves. People with Pyroluria have a higher rate of Emotional problems. WTF? dental procedure? and travel? and work? WOW! that’s the stress that puts in a ward? how about losing your house? and job? and everything that you hold dear to your heart? what a line of BS…
These twits, Britney, Mischa, Lindsey, have no idea what “stress” is in the real world. Trust me, getting dental work is low, REAL low on the stress scale. They wouldnt be able to hold a real job for 2 days without hitting the bottle or the straw.
