The summer’s breakout comedy star Zach Galifianakis, long a fixture on the alt-comedy circuit, is in talks to star alongside Steve Carrell and Paul Rudd in a Jay Roach-directed comedy Dinner for Schmucks. The long-gestating project, which also stars Lucy Punch, is about “the most pathetic guy ever to be invited to another man’s weekly dinner party,” according to the Hollywood Reporter. Galifianakis would play “an assistant manager of a mattress store who is dating Carell’s ex-wife.”
