'Lost': John Hawkes joins cast

Categories: News, Television

John Hawkes, best known for playing Sol Star in HBO’s Deadwood, has been cast in the final season of ABC’s Lost, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Hawkes will reportedly play a character named Lennon, who — as EW told you earlier — is “the spokesperson/translator for the president of a foreign corporation,” as well a “wily negotiator [who's] far more powerful than his lowly position would seem to indicate.” Lost will return for its sixth and final season in early 2010.

This is GREAT news. Sol Starr was one of my favorite characters on Deadwood, and I’m sure John Hawkes will make an equally compelling addition to Lost!

    Jason Dohring wuz ROBBED.

When is the Air date of the 6th/final season of Lost in 2010?

  • Heidi

That’s funny, many of us were suggesting different Deadwood actors. I would have preferred Ian McShane but it was all quality on the Deadwood set so I’m quite fine with John Hawkes!

  • Megan

Wow Lost is good at hiring Deadwood actors.I think this makes the sixth one.

I don’t like the character name Lennon. It sounds like a not too subtle attempt to put the former Beetle on the same intellectual level as the philosophers and scientists who are the source of many of the other names on the show. Hawkes though sounds like a character name on Lost.

  • Vetinari

Hah Beatle I meant, of course.

  • Regina

    Trixie (Paula Malcomson)

    Silas (Titus Welliver)

    Joanie Stubbs (Kim Dickens)

    Sol Starr (John Hawkes)

    EB Farnum (William Sanderson)

    Francis Wolcott (Garret Dillahunt)

When were Titus Welliver and Garret Dillahunt on “Lost?” I remember all the others, but not those two.

      • Matt

Don’t remember Garret Dillahunt being on, but Titus Welliver was the Man in Black on the season finale last year

      • Wojo

Oh yeah, duh. I was thinking Titus Welliver was the guy who played Dan Dority on “Deadwood.” Thanks, Matt.

also Robin Weigert who played Jane on Deadwood was Juliet’s sister, Rachel

    • Mark

Don’t know the actor’s name, but Juliet’s sister (Rachel?) played Calamity Jane on Deadwood.

UHHMMM…. They rarely if ever use the name in the casting call for the name of the actual character. Since you seem to be confused the description is almost always a ruse.

Great news. Big fan. He’ll fit in nicely.

  • Me

So does this mean he will no longer be the brother on ‘Eastbound and Down’, because he is awesome in that show. People mention ‘Deadwood’ which was great but he was also awesome in ‘The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford’ just an under appreciated movie all around.

    • remmy

He wasn’t in that movie, but yes, it was under appreciated.

  • Scott

He can still be on Eastbound and Down. They don’t start filming the new season of it until next winter or early spring, he’ll be done with Lost by then.

  • ncooper

Sounds like Lennon is pretty similar to Richard Alpert. That’s close to how I’d describe his role for the Others.

  • Kath

has it occurred to anyone, that Lennon is actually Lenin, as in social reform? The writers love to introduce names of great thinkers.

    • Em

That’s exactly what I was thinking! Lenin makes much more “Lost” sense.

  • Meagan

When the first post about this character cam up, I posted a comment mentioning that John Hawkes would be good for this…so your welcome I guess. :) I was hoping the Deadwood/Lost connection would stay strong for the last season. Maybe Jim Beaver will be next!
