Paul Giamatti cast as Larry in Farrelly bro's Three Stooges

Tags:

Peter Farrelly told the Boston Globe that Paul Giamatti will play Larry in the Farrelly brothers’ upcoming Three Stooges movie. Sean Penn was previously attached to the role but has since bowed out, and Benicio Del Toro will play Moe. Jim Carrey had been in negotiations to play Curly, but according to the Globe, “it’s not so. If Farrelly has someone in mind, he didn’t tell [them] who.”

You gotta’ be kidding…Benicio Del Toro playing Moe!!! Outrageous, only because Moe was short…Del Toro’s too tall. Paul Giamatti will make a perfect Larry, but come on…Jim Carrey as Curley. Del Toro & Carrey are way too tall. Why does Hollywood insist that we movie goers suspend our belief for actors who don’t even come close in resemblance to the character (or real person) they’re playing. Where’s the casting agent who can get the actors/actresses who resemble the character (or real person) in the film.
And by the way, who needs a Three Stooges movie anyway? Hollywood producers are hitting the bottom of the barrel, don’t ya think, when it comes to the films they’re churning out these days!!!!!!!!

Here is a comment I posted on the Farrelly brothers 3 Stooges site: “This leads me to the question, are you going to use some type of trick photography or computer enhancement process to slice 6 or 7 inches off Carrey’s and del Toro’s height to make the movie believable? I think mainly all of the Stooges being on the short side was what helped make them look so funny when they were engaging in their slapstick routines. I think Shemp was the tallest of all the Stooges. I hope Shemp is included in your film; if not moviegoers may be disappointed. Many people don’t know tha shemp was one of the original stooges; before Curly.

For me casting is crucial. Such as: Jamie Foxx as Ray Charles, Sissy Spacek as Loretta Lynn, Kurt Russell as Elvis (he was few inches shorter, but i handled it quite well) and the list goes on. Most of the actors from the TV movie about the 3 Stooges were all around 5’7 or 5’8 so it was believable; but 6’2! I hope that by your casting these two tall actors it doesn’t turn into the “William Bendix” syndrome. William Bendix played baseball Hall of Famer Babe Ruth in “The Babe Ruth Story”. It is widely known that this was horrible miscasting.

Now listen, wise guys. Stranger things have happen in Hollywood before. The addition of the talented Mr. Giamatti to the cast promises to provoke laughter all around. So spread out and let them continue to make a movie to honor the team of Howard, Fine and Howard. Don*t forget Shemp, Joe or Curly Joe either.

Is it a biopic? Because that might be cool, otherwise go rent the oldies on DVD.
