'All My Children' moves production from NY to LA

Tags:

ABC’s daytime soap All My Children will move from shooting in New York to Los Angeles in 2010, according to Variety. The network confirmed the long-bubbling rumor on Tuesday and added that sister soap One Life to Live will move into Children‘s old New York digs once it vacates. The change will allow both shows to start broadcasting in high-definition, as well as save the network a significant amount of money. ABC’s daytime soap General Hospital also films in L.A.

And allow more All my Children stars to be on Dancing With the Stars and not have to fly coast to coast.

I guess the AMC/OLTL crossovers will be through. So Erica Kane will start showing up in Port Charles rather than Llanview?

LOL @ AL. Thought the same thing.

Ridiculous, primarily because you’re asking families to move cross-country. That’s why Rebecca Budig left in the first place.

I wonder if they will cause Susan Lucci to hang it up???? She’s a lifetime New Yorker… Plus, I don’t know if these older actors on soaps want to put on all the makeup required for HD??

Al, you are right. I know DWTS is on ABC but heavens forbid they ask another soap actor from Y&R (which has better ratings)or Days (Deidra Hall has a huge following). I’m sure some of the actors were not particularly happy to hear they will be moving from NYC to LA.

Now can I have As the World Turns in LA? That’d be great. Thanks.

while I can understand DWTS wants to utilize actors from their own network.. they should call it “dancing with ABC stars, etc” I’m getting tired of all the ABC soaps getting in on the action. To be honest, if they showcased other soap actors (Y&R, B&B, Days), i might watch DWTS more

If there is show that needs shaking up , it’s AMC.
I hope OLTL reaps benefits from this …
Am sorry that NYC actors have one less TV slot to work in … Hey CBS , we don’t need another game show, you’ll find that out soon enough.

I don’t know if there is any way to save AMC at this point from its bad writing, they have killed off every good character and made every long time character into a sap on there. The show ended for me 10 years ago.

Since when did Erica Kane ever appear in Llanview? Been watching 40 years and haven’t seen her there yet!?

I wonder how many long time Pine Valley residents we will lose. What about the actor that plays Zack, isn’t he married to Marty on OLTL. OLTL is staying in NYC.

I just hope that it will open up to some of the actors we used to love on the show that we lost to L.A. will now come back. That is usually the reason they leave, to try “Hollywood” most don’t make it but are quite popular on the soap they came from. Michael Knight tried, came back and stayed back every since. I agree, I just hope we don’t lose Susan or anyone else.

I see big cast changes ahead!

Brian Frons is the last person who should be running ABC Daytime. He is responsible for bringing in Jill Farren Phelps as Executive Producer of GH who has practically ruined a once great show…haven’t watched it in 10 years…ever since Phelps started killing off beloved characters. I feel sorry for the actors at AMC. Like others have said, be prepared for major cast defections. I don’t blame them. Frons should be fired along with Phelps! Let me know when both are gone.
