Springsteen, U2, Metallica set for Hall of Fame benefit concerts

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, U2, and Metallica are among the bands Billboard is reporting will headline two concerts at Madison Square Garden this fall to celebrate the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 25th anniversary. The concerts — which will include performances from Eric Clapton, Simon & Garfunkel, and Aretha Franklin, among others — will take place October 29 and 30, and be filmed for an upcoming HBO special. Tom Hanks, Cameron Crowe, and Robbie Robertson are involved in curating the evenings, from which all proceeds will go towards creating a permanent endowment for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation and Museum.

Tickets go on sale to the general public August 3.

'Catch Me If You Can' musical premiere delayed after star's sister is slain

The first two previews of a musical based on Steven Spielberg's Catch Me If You Can have been delayed after the murder of star Norbert Leo Butz's sister. Teresa Ann Butz, 39, was reportedly stabbed to death in her Seattle home by an intruder in the early morning of July 19. Her partner, an unnamed 36 year old woman, survived the attack. According to a report in the Seattle Times, police are investigating whether it was a hate crime.

Butz, a Tony award winner for Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, plays FBI Agent Carl Hanratty — the part originated by Tom Hanks on screen. The musical, which features a book by Terrence McNally and music and lyrics by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, was to begin previews at the 5th Avenue Theatre on July 25. The theater has not yet announced a new opening date.

Mischa Barton recovering, optimistic about 'The Beautiful Life'

Mischa Barton, who was hospitalized last week and reportedly placed under psychiatric supervision, "continues to improve but is still undergoing treatment," according to her publicist Craig Schneider. She hopes to return to work later this month, when The CW's The Beautiful Life is to begin production. Barton was cast as a pill-popping model in the new series, and despite reports to the contrary, Schneider insists her involvement remains on track as the network recently requested bio info to include in the show's press materials.

Lifetime to air 'Project Runway' All-Star Challenge

Santino-Rice_l Kicking off its sixth season, Project Runway will welcome back eight superstar designers from years past, including Santino Rice (pictured), Jeffrey Sebelia and Sweet P,  for a special two-hour “All-Star Challenge.” Prior to Lifetime’s Project Runway season premiere and the series premiere of Models of the Runway on Aug. 20, the Runway alums will match wits and fashions to compete for a $100,000 cash prize. Sam Worthington to be 'The Candidate'

Australian action hero du jour Sam Worthington will star in a remake of The Candidate — a 2008 Danish thriller, not the 1972 Robert Redford political drama. Variety reports that playwright Beau Willimon (Farragut North) will adapt the original film, and the Terminator Salvation hero will play an aspiring lawyer who's blackmailed when he wakes up to find his one-night stand dead in the bathtub.

Darren Lynn Bousman announces 'Abattoir'

Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II) will write and direct Abattoir, an adaptation of a soon-to-be-released graphic novel from Radical Comics. Variety reports that the plot will revolve around a real estate agent who's drawn into a dark underworld after he's assigned to clean and sell a house that was the site of a brutal massacre. Artwork from the graphic novel, based on a concept by Bousman and his writing partner Michael Peterson, is slated to be shown at Comic-Con.

Jami Gertz and James Mangold to share 'Three Little Words'

Actress/producer Jami Gertz (Still Standing) and her new production company, Lime Orchard Prods., have hired James Mangold (Walk the Line) to direct Three Little Words, according to Variety. Based on Ashley Rhodes-Courter's 2008 memoir, the film will be about growing up in foster care.

Police search Dr. Conrad Murray's house: report

Police were searching the Houston, Texas, home of Michael Jackson’s personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, CNN is reporting. According to the report, representatives from the Los Angeles Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration conducted the search. Murray was the physician who was with Jackson when he died last month.

Sam Raimi to direct 'Warcraft'

Spider-Man director Sam Raimi has signed on to direct a live-action adaptation of the fantasy videogame World of Warcraft. Variety reports that Raimi will shoot Warcraft, which will chronicle the epic conflict between the Horde and the Alliance, after completing Spider-Man 4 next year.

'Super-Size Me' getting graphic novel companion

Morgan Spurlock, director of the 2004 movie Super-Size Me, is teaming up with Dark Horse for a graphic novel companion titled Supersized: Strange Tales From a Fast Food Culture, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The novel will reportedly attempt to make a point about health and nutrition through a series of bizarre stories about America's obsession with fast food, written by Spurlock with a mix of established and up-and-coming artists scripting and drawing the book. A clown character called MC Super-Size Me will serve as a guide through the stories, similar to the Crypt Keeper in EC Comics' Tales From the Crypt.
