Marie Osmond's talk show a no-go

Filed under: News and tagged:

Country singer and performer Marie Osmond’s upcoming talk show, Marie, has been put on hold due to the unfavorable economic climate, according to a statement released today by Osmond and her show’s distributor, Program Partners. The one-hour syndicated chat series was scheduled to debut in September, but struggling “broadcasting, advertising, and credit markets” made it impossible to support the program at this time. Osmond –who is currently performing nightly in Las Vegas with her brother, Donny– says she still hopes to return to daytime television in the future. ”This project, under proper conditions, still remains a strong passion of mine,” she said.

If it were somebody hipper/sexier, they wouldn’t use the “broadcasting, advertising & credit markets” as an excuse. Just my opinion.

I adore Marie, so I would love to see her do a talk show. She’s charming, witty, and a natural conversationalist.

I can’t believe this. And with show’s like Wendy Williams and Tyra on tv.

Even though I was skeptical, I wanted to see how far she could go with this type of show. I actually wanted to get on the show and openly discuss with Marie what Scumbag 1st Husbands we had and how they destroyed our families with thier cheating. But what was neat was the fact that Her Ex and mine both remarried and are probably cheating on thier 2nd wives as well.

A talk show has been done before by herself and her brother, and it hasn’t worked then.

Of course it makes sense to scrap it before it starts because it’s more likely than not to not work now.

Please stop the endless talk-shows – I’m so done hearing about the best way to cleanse your colon or how to save your marriage after some one has affair all while the host sings, dances or just ‘models’.

I find if odd that so far Marie’s show is the only show pulled because of the economy. Or did the producers and station buyers wise up before it was too late? Her first two talkies failed terribly–who in their right mind would give her another talk show–she can hardly hold a decent conversation with another person–believe me, I’ve tried on several occasions.

Thank god we won’t have to listen to Marie tell us over and over how she is a single mother with 8 children.

I also had serious doubts about her doing a talk show when there are so many out there already. Although since Marie came of age onstage and in the midst of the great TV hosts like Mike Douglas and merv Griffin if she ever did join the TV talk foray i think she would be just as great as more of an entertainment host bringing on not only current up and comers but some recognizable stars from her heyday as well. And of course a singing segment with the guests or alone. in other words, back to more entertainment and less talk. Mike and especially Merv were both great at that and it is sorely missing on the TV talk shows of today. And yes, i too cringe when i see Marie say over and over how she is a single mother with eight children, she sometimes sounds like she is stuck on that one subject. lastly, since she no longer has the talk show gig lined up and now that brother Donny is in the new line up for DWTS, i fully expect her to become an ET correspondent while he is on the show also….just watch, it will probably happen since she seems to be buddies with Mary Hart.
