Call it a 3D film with a "green" theme. Thanks to a joint venture between Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment, the tale of The Lorax is about to become not only the latest motion picture version of a Dr. Seuss tale, but the first one to be told in a 3D format. Though there is no immediate word on what vocal talent will be attached to the pic, Variety is reporting that the high-tech animated feature will be directed by Chris Renaud, Cinco Paul & Ken Daurio. Originally released as a children's book in 1971, The Lorax is about a money-hungry businessman who –despite pleas from a tree-loving creature– strips a forest bare and leaves nothing behind for the native wildlife. The flick is already being tentatively slated for release on March 2, 2012. That's happens to be the birthday of Theodor S. Geisel (aka Dr. Seuss), who died in 1991.

I doubt it’ll be able to beat the book or the short film made shortly after the book release which was one of my favourite films when I was little.
It’s a great book and I hope they do it justice, It’ll probably be kinda like Horton Hear’s a Who, which was a good adaptation in my mind, and also animated.
I’m praying for it to not be like the full-length films they made of (shudder the memory) How The Grinch Stole Christmas or The Cat in the Hat.
I loved Horton Hears a Who — I thought that was a really good adaptation. I’m really looking forward to this. Big Dr. Seuss fan!
