Sony to distribute Chinese director's remake of Coen brothers classic

Categories: Movie Biz, Movies

It looks like the Coen brothers may have become the latest, greatest American cinematic talents to get their work both re-made overseas and then re-marketed in America. According to Variety, the Oscar-winning siblings’ 1984 creepy-yet-comedic film debut, Blood Simple, will undergo a re-vamp courtesy of the respected Chinese filmmaker Yimou Zhang, whose new version will then be distributed by Sony Pictures Classics in the U.S. and Canada, Latin America, Australia and New Zealand. This will be the first major film production for Zhang since he choreographed the opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing Summer Olympics in 2008.
