The first two previews of a musical based on Steven Spielberg's Catch Me If You Can have been delayed after the murder of star Norbert Leo Butz's sister. Teresa Ann Butz, 39, was reportedly stabbed to death in her Seattle home by an intruder in the early morning of July 19. Her partner, an unnamed 36 year old woman, survived the attack. According to a report in the Seattle Times, police are investigating whether it was a hate crime.
Butz, a Tony award winner for Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, plays FBI Agent Carl Hanratty — the part originated by Tom Hanks on screen. The musical, which features a book by Terrence McNally and music and lyrics by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, was to begin previews at the 5th Avenue Theatre on July 25. The theater has not yet announced a new opening date.

Oh my God, how horrible. All my best thoughts for him and his family. A truly gifted performer.
My sincere and deep sympathy to Mr. Butz and those dear to his sister.
I have met and seen Mr. Butz in several shows. I is truly a wonderful person. My sincere sympathy to him and his family.
