FX has ordered a pilot of the The League, a semiscripted comedy from producer-director-writer Jeff Schaffer, whose credits include Curb Your Enthusiasm, Seinfeld, and the latest Sacha Baron Cohen film Bruno. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the plot revolves around a fantasy football league and deals with the issues of suburban marriage, friendship, and parenting. Schaffer created the show with his wife, Jackie Marcus Schaffer. Among the cast: Human Giant's Paul Scheer, I Love You, Man's Nick Kroll, and Alina Foley, daughter of the Kids in the Hall's Dave Foley.

Maybe they’ll really give this show a chance to succeed. It could air regularly on Mondays at 8 pm in the Fall and Winter. And since FX loves showing things a million times, it could re-air at 1 pm, 4 pm, and 8 pm on Sundays. Later in Winter, it could maybe be seen on Thursday nights and Saturday afternoons. And to top it all off, let’s hope there’s a 6-hour special from 1 pm to 7 pm on Thanksgiving. A flexible schedule like that will really let it find its target audience. I don’t foresee any problems.
