Irreverent comedian Russell Brand — who caused controversy at last year's MTV Video Music Awards by poking fun at the Jonas Brothers' purity rings — will return to host the show again in New York City Sept. 13, the network announced today. Taylor Swift and Muse are set to perform for the first time at the 26th annual event, with Swift singing a never-before-heard version of her "You Belong With Me" and the British rockers making their debut U.S. performance with a new single, "Uprising."

YAY! A reason to watch! Go MTV!
yeah Russell is an awesome choice, he was so funny last year.
Kudos to MTV for picking Brand again, despite the controversies last year (mostly to do with people not being able to take a joke). I think he is one of the brightest stars in comedy right now who deserves more recognition statewide.
He was terrible last year. The funniest part was when he was leaving the stage and remembered he forgot to say something, awkwardly turned around and said, ‘nothing’s what it seems.’
brilliant, good to know mtv enjoyed him as much as i did, guess i’ll be tuning in to see who he pisses off this year
AWESOME!!! Brand is brilliant and I cannot wait to see who he makes fun of this time!!!
Who cares? MTV…which ironically stands for Music Television…..doesn’t even play music videos anymore so it makes absolutely no sense for the network to give out awards for music videos.
Russell Brand was terrible last year. All his jokes fell flat. He looked as if he had no idea what the hell to do. MTV has lost its relevancy in pop culture.
I watched his special on either HBO or Comedy Central (can’t remember which) and the guy is absolutely hilarious. The only people upset are the Jonas Brothers fans who are too stupid to realize that purity rings don’t mean anything and the band has no talent at all.
It’s going to be AMAZING! You’ll be able to watch the awards here

It asks you to do a little survey but then it takes you right to the show! Enjoy
Brand is a dbag
Russell is not funny at all. MTV did you ask him again because you can’t get anybody who is actually funny. Russell made last year MTV award show so boring I turn from it and I know alot of other people that did the same. Please FOR THE LOVE OF GOD ASK SOMEONE ELSE TO HOST. PLEASSSSSSSSE!!!!!!!!! SERIOUSLY, no smart person gets his so call humor. I rather count sheep.
can’t wait, NOT.
He was deplorable last year and he’s going to bomb again this year.
Just what I want to see again, someone who tries too hard and falls even harder give out awards for videos not even shown on the network, because that makes so much sense. MTV must be so proud of themselves being so far behind the curve of cultural relevance.
Yeah…he really sucks. It’s just…Brand represents a major aspect of what’s wrong with society: being judgemental and mocking towards those who live differently from you. It’s not necessary for comedy, and even though some of his jokes make me laugh, they’re not extraordinary – it’s sophomoric! BUT – I suppose it’s just as well for him to rep MTV in this way. It has become a pretty narrow, limited cesspool of programming in and of itself.
