'Bruno' released in edited version for younger audiences in U.K.

Universal Pictures U.K. is releasing an edited version of Bruno meant for younger audiences to help boost box office, marking the first time two iterations of a film are out at the same time in England, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The “15″-rated edit, submitted to the British Board of Film Classification Monday, is 110 seconds shorter than the “18″-rated original. It eliminates three scenes with what is considered extreme sexual content: a montage of exaggerated sex between Bruno and his boyfriend, Bruno pretending to have oral sex with a dead person he contacts through a medium, and activity at a swingers’ party. Universal said many U.K. movie theaters “have reported turning away large numbers of under 18s keen to see the new film.”

They probably also might have wanted to edit out the, uh, “dancing member” portion of the show that he pitched.

It’s kinda funny to think that just a little under 2 minutes of the movie can be edited out to give it a lower rating! Now I don’t think that would work in the US since movies get R ratings for too many f-bombs. But it would be kind of cool to have movies release a version for kids and adults!

I remember that in the 70′s that they released a PG version of Saturday Night Fever. It had a lot of F bombs and a gang bang scene so I think they cut those out.

Seriously–the dancing member part was pretty extreme though it IS Europe and they don’t see nudity in the same way as Americans do…I wish the version I brought my 16 year old nephew and 13 year old daughter (what WAS I thinking) had been edited–I thought it would be like Borat, maybe a little nudity but that’s it. Boy was I wrong!

For me the stronger scene was the one with the medium. For some reason even though it was simulating sex with “no one”, I found it pretty outrageous.

What gets me is that people are not obligated to go and physically enter into the movie theater after paying for the ticket to go see a rated R film conceived as raunchy entertainment for concenting adults, not for children or those who want to censor everything they feel does not meet their high moral standards. So please stop your complaining and leave those who seek a movie to laugh at alone. I for one got my moneys worth just as many of the people who most went to watch Transformers this after most film critics gave it sorry reviews. I thought the movie was just what it was intended to be. I got it and I laughed my head off, especially at the “dancing/singing member” portion of the show pitch scene.

It’s a very funny movie. It’s just not for everyone. I bet older teens will love a tamer version.

I think they should keep editing the movie until it is only 5 minutes long. That way they could keep all the funny parts intact.
