Christian Slater is coming back to television. The actor, whose NBC spy drama My Own Worst Enemy lasted only nine episodes last season, will return to TV this fall in ABC’s The Forgotten, according to a network press release. Slater will play Alex Donovan, the head of a crew of amateur sleuths who solve cases involving unidentified victims. The casting places Slater in the capable hands of Jerry Bruckheimer, the mind behind mega-successful crime procedurals CSI, Cold Case, and Without a Trace, who’s partnering with executive producer Mark Friedman (Home of the Brave) on the new series. Joining Slater in the cast will be Michelle Borth (Tell Me You Love Me), Jericho’s Bob Stephenson, Anthony Carrigan (Law & Order: Criminal Intent), and Dirt’s Rochelle Aytes. The Forgotten debuts Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 10 p.m. ET.

Not another procedural! This is like when the schedules get eaten up by sports and you have to suffer in silence because you’re one of the few people in the world who has no interest. Can’t we have a real drama? With actual characters? Or at least that doesn’t feature the exact same paper thin storyline slightly altered each week? British cop dramas like Prime Suspect and Inspector Morse have proven that a good mystery needs a slow burn and the sort of development that a 40 minute episode just cannot deliver, and I always wail when I find out a favourite actor has landed in a procedural. Those shows are character black holes. The main characters never change and the guest stars don’t have time to become rounded or interesting. It’s infuriating because you cannot believe in or connect with anyone and so it doesn’t really matter who did it or how the investigators feel about the case. Yawn.
Slater may be “in the capable hands of Jerry Bruckheimer”, but the show’s in the utterly incapable hands of ABC, who’ve proven time and time again over the last two or three years ESPECIALLY that they have no idea what they’re doing.
Im a Slater fan. Other than TV what are his opinions. He’s not going to headline feature films anymore so if he hits on a TV show he can make some real money again.

Christian Slater’s role was played by Rupert Penry-Jones in the pilot. I would have prefered Penry-Jones stay in the part. He was great in MI-5/Spooks and Whitechapel. The US is going to miss out on a really hot guy who can also act.
hmph. fitting title.
I always liked Christian Slater as an actor. I don’t care if the other guy is replaced. I didn’t know much about him anyway.
I’m glad to see a crime drama on ABC. I’m tired of bedhopping soap operas.
