Michael Jackson's family is at work on its own private ceremony, the Associated Press reports. Few details were given other then to say that it will be held at the Forest Lawn cemetery in the Hollywood Hills. Assistant Police Chief Jim McDonnell told the wire service Sunday that his department is working with the Jackson family on a "private family function" at the cemetery. No date for the event was given. The officer also said that the police department plans to shut down streets on Tuesday around Staples Center to keep out the tens of thousands of fans they expect to show up to the public memorial without tickets.

I wonder how much longer the media will be able to milk this “story.”
We recently released a Michael Jackson tribute cover of “The Way You Make Me Feel” on YouTube. It is located at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F166o1QO6Y8. We will miss you, Michael, forever the King of Pop.
I think Michaels kids should be with germaine why Michael Loved his brother or Janet I Loved the Jacksons 5 movie when i was a kid And i still Do
ENOUGH with the Michael Jackson coverage! I am SO sick of it. Bury the poor guy and move on Jackson family.
This is almost as bad as the Anna Nicole Smith case a couple of years ago.
I love how nitwits like Lynn think that they are entitled to an opinion when it comes to who should have custody of Michael’s kids…of all the hubris! Somebody on one of the other MJ threads said they thought that fans should have a say in where MJ was buried. These people are just insane!
Michael Jackson is getting the coverage he deserves
RIP MJ
Buffy Freak,
Why do you spend your time reading blogs and correcting or calling people names. Comments are for readers opinions and comments about the article. It’s also a way for his fans to celebrate the life and mourn the death of someone they have admired and supported their entire life-those under 40 will likely never have the experience. We are well aware that we didn’t know him and his family is not making their decisions based on posts on EW.
I tried to get my 4-children (now in their 30’s) interested in the Jackson’s; they said, the who? Until Thriller came out, then you would have though my kids discovered them, my daughter even named her cabbage patch doll after Michael. My oldest Son, had to have the red jacket, the pants, and silver glove. The was great doing the moon walk. He was my idol. The night sky is dimmer, earth’s loss, is heavens gain. He will be missed. To the children & family may the good memories you have of Michael, substain you in the years to come.
To the children and the family, may your memories of Michael substain you in the coming days and weeks ahead as you travel through this journey that we all must travel.
Michael, you will be Missed, Loved and Admired.. I will never forget YOU!!
xxoo Teri Salvi
Why are the Jackson Family having a memorial if Michael’s Body is not going to be shown to the public? What is the use of showing on tv world wide.He was THE KING OF POP,his fans should be able to view him just like James Brown.May he rest in peace!!!
I grew up listening to Michael Jacksons music…he will always be loved and remembered….just sad that this had to happen for people to come together…..RIP Michael…
I love MJ.Did i know him no but his songs always touched me i will no longer have that.Today i read a article in the press telegram about a author name Tom Hennessey he very clearly said he do not like Micheal well guess what too bad i’m glad his fans love him not the scandals surrounding him.I will play his songs and mourn with the rest of the fans there will be no other like him.Oh and i will not read the press telegrahm in Long Beach any longer.
I find it funny when someone visits an MJ link and then claims the media is over covering his death. Then why are you on the MJ link? And comparing his coverage to Anna Nicole Smith? Sorry, but Anna Nicole Smith was a person with little talent who wanted to become famous. MJ was a person with huge talent who wanted to entertain us becoming famous in the process. MJ deserves every minute of this coverage.

Well said, smilie12!
I’m just glad his family is placing him someplace quiet. The MSN article interviewing the 20-somethings that received tickets to the memorial is sickening. They act like they are going to a concert. It’s a memorial-let’s not forget that!
Micheal Jackson will always be remembered and in our hearts for all eternity.
Obviously NE you don’t remember when Elvis died. The coverage of his death and funeral still is in my brain. Though in a different era and I’m not comparing the two- MJ deserves the recognition. I just wish the media would recognize MJ for what he has done for the world instead of wasting time with other issues. But as with Elvis, they will concentrate on the negative instead of the positive. If you don’t like the coverage, change the channel.
I love MJ always his music plays in my mind often these days. I am surprised that his body won’t be at the service. I think they should bury him somewhere private and unknown to the public. I will always miss and love MJ his body but his spirit and music will live on forever. In the words of Madonna “Long live the king” there will never be another MJ may he rest in peace…
I am so glad that MJ’s body will not be at the memorial service tomorrow. It’s about time he was given the dignity and respect he deserves. God bless him!
Come on, LAPD, don’t deny the gazillions of fans that will show up for the public memorial at The Staples Center. You can certainly put a little bit more of “your finest” to control the crowd and insure the city of Angels that you support the fans who will show up outside the center. It’s the least you can do for MJ fans. Nothing can prevent true fans of MJ for showing up even if they don’t have a ticket to honor The King Of Pop. Just saying that the LAPD MUST be prepared for crowds. So please, LAPD, PREPARE. Thank you.
This really has become more of a circus than Neverland itself. I’m looking forward to the burial and memorial passing, so that MJ can finally rest in peace and we can all get on with our lives.
Of course, until then…there is still time to vote in our final MJ poll…which ends tomorrow — same day as all this mayhem ending. Take poll here:

I would like to know who is going to be paying for this circus, er I mean Memorial? The State of Caifronia is going broke yet they still will have extra police to patrol the streets surrounding Staples. Leave it to America to profit from it by puting these tickets on E-Bay already. WAKE UP PEOPLE. Let the Jackson family have their private burial and maybe a few months later have THEM pay for a Tribute to him that can be sold to TV so everybody that wants to watch, can. That way they can still live off of MJ like they have for years. I’m sure the biding wars would be comparable to the olympics. Let that idiot Sharpton or Jesse Kackson negotiate.
Linda Castaneda-your comment that “fans should be able to view the body” is ignorant. Michael Jackson does not belong to the public. And – you don’t need a body to have a memorial service. Displaying Michael’s body would have been a huge mistake and created pandemonium amongst crazed fans. The family is doing the right thing by burying him quietly and privately. Sorry I guess there’s not much entertainment value left for you. Too bad.
Fishpaw, you actually make sense – if it’s not an actual funeral, why do they need to have this memorial now? Bury Michael privately now and have a concert later. Your comment about the family living off Michael rings true. And lots of other people seem to have also been living off him. Sad.
I have placed a twin heart of flowers in my shop in memory of mj and listed his 29 charties, also a note from me i truly admired him a showman that will never be replaced, a loving heart, with the guts to try and change the world…god bless him always and forever.
this is SICK. A circus for a “memorial service”???? I am disgusted by those mindless idiots who are squeeing like 12 year old idiots at the thought of this creep’s funeral – he*ll I am disgusted at anyone who finds it appropriate to turn anyone’s memorial circus into a money making circus.
it’s safe to say that if anyone wants to find the stupidest people alive, then MJ “fans” would be the place to start. MY GOD the depths of the stupidity of the comments here are mind boggling. SERIOUSLY!
no sara, if more people were like Michael Jackson, his family, and his fans, the world would be a better place for everyone.
to lovemichael forever – really? you think if there were more people who molested children, who lied about everything from the reasons he turned his face and body into a freakshow, who purchased children, and who was an unrelenting drug addict, the world would be a better place??? I hope to God you stay far away from children.
