After getting rave reviews as the master of ceremonies at last month's Tony Awards, How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris is in negotiations with CBS to host this year's 61st annual Emmy Awards on Sept. 20, according to Variety. The deal would likely appease critics who lambasted last year's Emmy show for using five reality show stars — including Tom Bergeron and Heidi Klum — as co-hosts, while also providing a plug for Mother, which will debut in the 8 p.m. Monday slot on CBS the night after the awards show. In addition to the Tonys, Harris has also served as host of this year's TV Land Awards and the Writers Guild Awards ceremony in L.A.

That’s a brilliant idea! I liked Harris and thought he was a great choice for the Tonys. I also think he’d do a very good job with the Emmys. However, Ferguson would be INSANELY good, while still getting in the requisite CBS plug.

I think he would be wonderful! Though he was great at the Tony’s I think the more challenging gig was the TV Land Awards and he rocked it. When he became different characters and walked into the room as “Doogie Howser”? Instant classic!

I’m all for NPH to spread his awesomeness all over the Emmys, but him hosting better not mean he won’t get a nomination. If he doesn’t win Best Supporting Actor this year, I will have lost all (remaining) respect for the ATAS.
NPH needs to win Best Supporting Actor! If Jeremy Piven wins again, I’m going to throw up.
If he does host the show, it will be the only time someone from How I Met Your Mother will ever be on stage during the Emmy’s.
