Residents of Santa Barbara can breathe easy, at least for now: According to the AP, a family spokesperson has said that while a public memorial for Michael Jackson is in the planning stages, it will not be held on Friday at the late singer's Neverland Ranch, as reported earlier. Details are also still pending on how Jackson's body would be transported from Los Angeles to Neverland, as well as the legality of burying him at the ranch — the state of California considers interring any uncremated remains outside of a cemetary to be a misdemeanor.

Thank god – I’m driving to San Luis Obispo on Friday and the last thing I wanted was to get stuck in a freeway mess with obsessed fans in mourning.
Anyone suffering from MJ news fatigue yet? Well…still a LITTLE time left to vote in the poll. What is your favorite MJ song? Vote here:

A public viewing is wrong for Michael as his private life he liked to keep private. This is one of the most private moments of life. Michael was too big to involve the general public-the comments on all the blogs should be representative on who would show up. I personally would like to pay my last respects to someone I admired and truly wished I’d known-but not in the chaos and poor behaved American behavior that will likely be surrounding him. My wish for him is that he be cremated, kept with his mother and then when she dies, be buried with her so she can protect him for ever. I’m sure I will get nasty comments, but I am actually having a really hard time with this and still feel the need to defend him as I don’t want to see him be made into a spectacle. A public viewing should be avoided-a memorial-which many have been had is more respectful. Once he is laid to rest-then let the public visit. Don’t put him on display.
What about the life insurance? Who benefits through insurance?
Thank goodness. Larry King was having a meltdown last night: “Didn’t they realize this is a holiday weekend?” Now Larry can relax.
Michael Jackson was a great entertainer to all ages. He was always private about who he was and all should respect that privacy, just as we like our privacy to be protected. He was an entertainer to us all, but remember he is a child to a mother. No mother wants to bury their child so let the Jackson Family have their moment alone to greive. His mother has given the world the opportunity to enjoy his talents. Now let his mom lay him down to rest in peace and give the family time to say goodbye privately without all of us looking through the media window.
it will never, it’s never…

michael will be missed he was a great entertainer he will always be in my heart god bless
While I expect they will make an exception for a major public figure, I’d rather he have a simple memorial at his grave site where people can just pay their respects than the freakshow exhibit that Neverland would inevitably become. It would just be another ghoulish way for his personal life to overtake the music he made and for a bunch of voyeurs to go and gawp at all the strange things he owned and sneer at the strange way he lived.
I BELIEVE ALL SHOULD GIVE PEACE AND PIVACY TO THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF THE JACKSON FAMILY..WHICH I KNOW IS THEIR WISHES..WE HAVE LIFE LONG AMAZING MEMORIES..HE SHALL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN…….MEMORIES LIVE FOREVER…. GOD BLESS…KEEP THE FAITH…
I Love Michael Jackson and will miss him dearly. I think he was the best performer/singer of ALL Time! We will miss you Michael!
All those who think negative of him must not have much common sense or love in your heart like he had for all, especially children!
Cremated? Are you crazy? Chances are his own father, Joseph would steal his ashes and sell them with the label “Own a part of the best entertainer of the world.” He already sold off his son numerous times, stole his childhood, abused him. Enough. Just let Michael rest in peace, the entirety of him. Nothing to please his family. He did enough of that when he was alive.
Michael Jackson was the best artist of ALL time hands down! I love him and will miss him dearly. No man has ever accomplished the things he did and made the differences in the world as Michael did. The world would be a better place if people cared more like Michael.
All those who have negative things to say about him are ignorant and need to take a look at themselves and ask “Who am I to judge”?
Someone so loving and giving will forever be remembered as a legend. More people should love the children as Michael did!
While I, personally was not a huge MJ fan during the past decade, there were still songs as well as music videos that I was very entertained by, the most specific being “Billie Jean” performed at the “Motown 25″.
I watched the show “The Jacksons/ American Dream” Which showed the rise of the Jackson 5 and how things went from the days of their father as a manager , until the uprising of a superstar. I will truely miss the showmanship and vocal expertise that Michael gave to this world.
Joseph Jackson should be proud of how much he pushed his sons to accomplish what they did at such a young age and carry it on to the stardom that was the “Jackson 5″. He (Joseph) owes everything to Michael,Tito,Jermaine,Jackie, and Marlon. Without their talent, he was only a father with a dream.
