Letterman outranks 'Tonight Show' in weekly viewers for first time since 2005

The late-night wars are definitely heating up: For the week ending June 19, CBS' The Late Show With David Letterman beat The Tonight Show in viewers for the first time since December 2005. In the third week since Conan O'Brien took over The Tonight Show, Letterman averaged 3.46 million viewers — a 13 percent jump compared to the same week last year. O'Brien, in comparison, averaged 3.32 million viewers, up 4 percent from the previous year.

O'Brien still won the week among adults 18-49, but Letterman trailed by just one-half a rating point.

'I'm a Celebrity...': Lou Diamond Phillips crowned king of the jungle

Actor Lou Diamond Phillips was named winner of the reality show I'm a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here on last night's finale, defeating fellow finalists John Salley and Torrie Wilson. He has selected the charity Art Has Heart Foundation, which awards scholarships to lower income high school students, to receive a portion of his prize money. Phillips' screen credits include La Bamba, Young Guns, Courage Under Fire, and a stint on 24.

'Dark Knight,' 'Iron Man,' and 'Benjamin Button,' win at Saturn Awards

The Dark Knight, Iron Man, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button all won three or more trophies yesterday at the Saturn awards, the annual ceremony held by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films. According to Variety Christopher Nolan's Batman sequel was the biggest winner and took home statuettes for best action-adventure-thriller, music, writing, and special effects. The late Heath Ledger was also named best supporting actor.

Johnny Depp, Tim Burton on board for 'Dark Shadows'

At the LA premiere of Public Enemies, Johnny Depp confirmed that he'll star in an upcoming big screen version of the cult 1960's show Dark Shadows, directed by Tim Burton. Rumors of the project have circulated ever since Depp, an admitted fan of the gothic soap opera, acquired the rights to the series in 2007. Producer Richard D. Zanuck confirmed Depp and Burton's involvement last December, but this marks the first time that Depp has publicly said that Burton will direct. "Dark Shadows with Tim will also be down the line," Depp told EW June 23 in LA. "Timhas to finish [Alice in] Wonderland before he can start work on the next film. Ilove what he did with that. I think people are going to be so excitedand satisfied when they see that film. Some of his best work.  And Iwill be thrilled to work with him again on Dark Shadows. I was a bigfan of it when I was a kid and I think it is another of those perfectprojects for Tim to reimagine."

G4 to air 'Star Wars' Comic-Con panel

Variety reports that “The Star Wars Spectacular” will become the first televised panel in the history of Comic-Con when it airs July 25 on cable channel G4 (the panel takes place the previous day). Fronted by Attack of the Show! co-hosts Olivia Munn and Kevin Pereira, the two-hour presentation will deliver unseen footage along with a reading of a new script in the Clone Wars series. Panel members will include Lucasfilm exec Steve Sansweet and Clone Wars supervising director Dave Filoni.

Ryan Reynolds signs up for 'Buried'

Hot off the success of The Proposal, Ryan Reynolds has agreed to star in the indie drama Buried, reports Variety. The X-Men Origins: Wolverine actor will play a civilian contractor who is abducted in Iraq and finds himself buried alive with only three tools: a cell phone, a candle, and a knife.

Perez Hilton sues Black Eyed Peas' road manager

Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton (whose real name is Mario Lavandeira) filed a civil lawsuit Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court against Polo Molina, the road manager of the band Black Eyed Peas, according to Reuters. Hilton alleges that Molina punched him in the face on June 21 at a MuchMusic Video Awards afterparty in Toronto. According to Hilton, Molina was upset about the blogger's online criticism of the band's newest album. Hilton is seeking unspecified damages for battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Toronto police have already charged Molina with assault.

CBS fall premieres: Early 'Survivor' bow, 'NCIS: Los Angeles' debut set

CBS has announced its fall premiere schedule, which features a preseason launch for Survivor: Samoa on Thursday, Sept. 17. All of the Monday comedies, including the debut of Accidentally on Purpose starring Jenna Elfman, and CSI: Miami bow on Sept. 21. The new Julianna Margulies legal drama, The Good Wife, premieres on Sept. 22, the same night as NCIS' return and the debut of its spinoff, NCIS: Los Angeles, starring Chris O'Donnell and LL Cool J. The Eye's Wednesday comedy block of The New Adventures of Old Christine and Gary Unmarried returns on Sept. 23, along with Criminal Minds and CSI: NY. CSI and The Mentalist fire up on Sept. 24, and Ghost Whisperer, the network debut of Medium, and Numb3rs bow Sept. 25.

A special two hour-launch of The Amazing Race, followed by the return of Cold Case, premieres on Sept. 27 behind 60 Minutes. The new drama Three Rivers starring Alex O'Loughlin debuts Oct. 4.
