David Letterman in talks to remain on CBS through 2012

David Letterman is closing in on a deal with CBS to extend Late Show with David Letterman through the 2011-12 season, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The news of the talks comes just one week after new rival Conan O'Brien began his tenure at the helm of NBC's venerated The Tonight Show. The deal, which reportedly includes a lower license fee due to the shaky economy, would mean Letterman, 62, will have hosted his CBS show for nearly 20 years. It was unclear whether the host's $30 million annual salary will also be cut.

'My Name Is Earl' may be saved by TBS

My Name Is Earl is in early negotiations to be picked up by basic cable network TBS, weeks after broadcast network NBC cancelled the Emmy-winning series after four seasons, according to The Hollywood Reporter. TBS already has a deal in place to air syndicated reruns of Earl starting this fall, but it is still uncertain if a deal for 13 new episodes will pan out, in part because it's unclear whether the show's stars would return under what would most likely have to be a far-tighter budget.

Adam-lambert-drake-labry_l American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert told reporters at the Young Hollywood Awards on Sunday that "all your questions will be answered…once and for all" when his widely reported Rolling Stone cover story hits newsstands, reports People.com. The statement appears to indicate that, as has been speculated for weeks following the end of Lambert's run on Idol, the budding pop star plans to reveal whether or not he is gay. That speculation came to a boil when photos of Lambert with an interior designer named Drake LaBry recently surfaced on the web; when asked about their relationship at the Young Hollywood event, MTV News reports Lambert said he "takes the Fifth." Idol winner Kris Allen also attended the event, and told reporters, "I support [Adam] in whatever he does."

Bret Michaels broke nose, got stitches, from Tony Awards mishap

Tags: ,

Bret Michaels' quickly infamous accident at last night's Tony Awards left the rocker with a broken nose and needing three stitches for a cut lip, reports the Associated Press. Michaels' rep Joann Mignano told the AP that the Poison front man, who was struck in the head by a set piece during the Tony Awards' opening number, is scheduled for a precautionary CAT scan because of a previous neck injury. Mignano also noted that Michaels was upbeat after his Tonys injury and said he did not "miss his mark," as had been previously reported. The musician is set to join Def Leppard and Cheap Trick on a tour with Poison later this month.

UPDATE: Michaels' reps released a statement criticizing the Tonys for the way the incident was handled: "If everyone at the Tonys [was] aware that Bret missed his mark, then they should have been aware enough to stop the set piece from hitting him or at least slowed it down until he cleared the stage. I feel had this incident happened to Liza Minnelli, Dolly Parton or Elton John, the Tonys would have at least issued a letter of concern….In this situation Bret was not on his stage but was at the mercy of the Tonys. He was performing on the Tonys stage and had the reasonable expectation that that safety of the artist was a priority, and at no time did he do anything over-the-top or outlandish that would have put himself or others in a dangerous situation."

DMX gets probation for attempted assault on jail officer

Rapper DMX was sentenced Monday to 18 months probation, avoiding more jail time for assault, the Associated Press reports. DMX, né Earl Simmons, pleaded guilty to attempted aggravated assault in May, after authorities said he threw a meal tray at a jail officer. The entertainer has spent the better part of two years wrangling with the Arizona justice system, sentenced for felony theft, drug possession and animal cruelty after sheriff’s deputies seized his pit bulls, marijuana, and weapons from his Phoenix home. He was also alleged to have given a false name to a clinic in an effort to avoid payment. “Don't misunderstand me,” the actor said today. “It's a beautiful state, it's a beautiful city. But the powers that be have it out for me. It kind of taints my view.”

David Carradine autopsy report in a month, say Thai police

Thai authorities said today that they won’t know the cause of actor David Carradine’s death until toxicology and autopsy results come in a month from now, Reuters reports. The Kill Bill and Kung Fu star was found dead in the wardrobe of his room at the Swissotel Nai Lert Park last Thursday, with ligatures reportedly around his neck, wrists, and genitals. Deputy Bangkok police chief, Lieutenant-General Amnoy Nimmino, told reporters at a press conference Monday, “We are still investigating but we will not make any assumptions about his death until we have gathered all the facts.” It was first reported last week that Carradine, in Bangkok to film the movie Stretch, committed suicide, a claim strongly refuted by his family, who has asked the FBI to take a role in the investigation. Brother Keith Carradine added in a statement released by his attorney, Mark Geragos, that the family is “profoundly disturbed” by the publication of a photo by a Thai newspaper purportedly of Carradine’s hanging, naked body, and has threatened legal action.
