'My Name is Earl' creator sets up comedy pilot at Fox

My Name is Earl creator Greg Garcia will pen an untitled pilot for Fox, Variety reports. It will center on a 25-year-old male who is forced to raise the infant that resulted from a one-night stand when the child's mother ends up on death row for murder. "It's kind of in the world that Earl inhabited," Garcia told the trade. "The same type of people. And with Yes, Dear, I enjoyed writing about families and raising children. So I came up with this idea, which in a way combines those two things." (The young father has a "quirky family"; his clueless parents are in their 40s.) Garcia hopes to get his Earl crew back together if all goes well. "There's a lot of disappointment and frustration at how [that show] ended," he said. "But after that, we looked for a new home and tried to make it economically work, but it didn't work out. We unfortunately had to finally call it a day. Everyone tried."

Jackson fans will get concert refunds...but they could have a better offer

Ticket purchasers for Michael Jackson’s planned 50-night comeback concert may receive refunds sooner than expected, the concert promoter says. Ending speculation about when fans might be reimbursed for Jackson’s “This Is It,” performances in London, given the singer’s shocking death last Thursday, promoter AEG Live announced today that full refunds, including service charges, will be available starting Weds., July 1, through the ticketing venues like Ticketmaster. More information can be found at the Michael Jackson Live! website.

However, those holding vouchers for the now-priceless tickets, originally sold for between £50 and £75 ($83-$124), may decide they don’t want the money when they hear AEG’s offer. In lieu of the full refund, the company says it will send would-be concertgoers their actual, specially crafted lenticular ticket, designed by Jackson, himself. That offer remains valid until Aug. 14, 2009. “The world lost a kind soul who just happened to be the greatest entertainer the world has ever known,” said AEG’s president and CEO Randy Phillips. “Since he loved his fans in life, it is incumbent upon us to treat them with the same reverence and respect after his death.”

Jackson’s sudden death at age 50 not only sent plans for the concert series into disarray, but created a financial morass of personal debts, real-estate and recording holdings, and child custody issues that may take months, if not years, to settle.

Michael Jackson videos from studio, concert projects to be released?

Michael Jackson left behind an abundance of recently recorded videos of his performances, according to various news reports, including high-quality footage of rehearsals for his "This Is It" comeback concerts in London and a top-secret music video dubbed the "Dome Project" that Jackson wrapped shooting just two weeks before his death. TheWrap.com and The Hollywood Reporter are reporting that "This Is It" concert producer AEG Live has gathered 100 hours of video of Jackson and his rehearsals for his 50 scheduled London comeback shows, including a multi-camera, high-definition production shot the night before he died and enough audio for as many as two live albums. AEG, however, declined to comment to EW about whether they planned to release DVDs of the footage. Meanwhile, the Associated Press is reporting that Jackson shot the "Dome Project" for several days in early June, on four sets in the Culver Studios in L.A., including one set reminiscent of Jackson's iconic "Thriller" video. The project is reportedly expected to be completed July 15, but it is unclear when or whether it would see the light of day.
