Chris Brown: California court declines to delay June 22 hearing

Categories: Music

The California Supreme Court has declined to delay a June 22 preliminary hearing for singer Chris Brown, 19, who's charged with two felonies in an alleged attack on singer Rihanna, 21, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Brown's attorneys had asked the state high court to postpone the hearing to assess if a Superior Court judge had justifiably rejected the defense's request for access to internal police files. Brown's lawyer, Mark Geragos, told the L.A. Times that the records may have something to do with the leak of a photo of a bloodied Rihanna to TMZ.com. Judge Patricia Schnegg said that Geragos and team were only entitled to access to those files for the trial, not for the preliminary hearing. Brown could face close to five years in prison if convicted.
