Robert Pattinson hit by taxi, report says

Twilight star Robert Pattinson, 23, was hit by a taxi cab in New York City Thursday afternoon as he tried to escape a crowd of fans, People.com reports. The actor is in Manhattan filming the movie Remember Me, where he has been hounded by overzealous fans eager to get a look at him. On Thursday he reportedly attempted to run across the street near the Strand bookstore and was clipped on his hip by a cab. The driver reportedly stopped on impact. Pattinson walked away from the scene and did not appear to be seriously hurt. The actor recently hired his own security team, People.com reports, to supplant the security provided by the film's production company, Summit Entertainment. Summit has since released a statement downplaying the incident and declaring Pattinson's fans innocent in the matter. "Rob Pattinson is fine, the reports are exaggerated, and it was not caused by fans," that statement said. "Production continues."

Conan defeats Letterman in week 2 of late-night ratings battle

Categories: Television

In what is shaping up to be a heated late-night contest, Conan O'Brien topped David Letterman during their second week of head-to-head competition. The Tonight Show proved to be the decisive winner for the week of June 8 in the coveted 18-to-49 demographic — by a margin of 1.5 to .9. But the race was significantly closer in total viewers, as O'Brien netted 3.77 million viewers, only about 100,000 more than Letterman.

Despite the victory, The Tonight Show's numbers were down 38 percent from week 1. And The Late Show — bolstered by the Sarah Palin controversy — outdrew Tonight on three days. Before O'Brien took over, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno had been the clear-cut ratings champ for years.

As for Chaz's stepmother Mary Bono Mack, who married the late Sonny Bono in 1986, the U.S. Congresswoman (R-California) told People that Chaz "has always been a loving and important part of our family who has supported us all through thick and thin. This is a very difficult decision that Chaz has fully vetted, and over the past decade, has discussed the matter thoroughly and consulted therapists and medical experts. As he moves forward, I will be there to support him and love him every step of the way."
