Disney's stage adaptation of its 1989 animated hit The Little Mermaid will end its Broadway run at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on Aug. 30 after 685 performances (or 735, if you also count the 50 previews). The show — which received good reviews from the likes of Time and Wall Street Journal -- will begin a national tour in 2010.

I love love love The Little Mermaid so I will definetely go see it when it comes to a closer setting. I almost died when I read just the first part though, I thought it was closing for good, and I was planning a trip to go see it. It was my favorite show as a kid. Couldnt see it in the theatre, I was born in 89 and was 4 mos old when in came out. Ariel is my favorite princess so hope it comes close. Cant wait.

Awful, awful show. Good riddance. And by the way, Time and the Wall Street Journal gave it good reviews, but every other critic (including EW) gave it negative to scathing reviews. May a better show take its place.

    Sierra was a marvelous Ariel.
    It was a wonderful production
Best wishes to all the performers.

Can they bring Beauty and the Beast back then? That’d be awesome.

yes please bring back Beauty and the beast is a shame that they had to close her 13 years down for just a silly 1.5 year little mermaid… when tarzan closed before Batb. The Little mermaid could have taken tarzan’s theater …!

I have seen about 40 musicals on Broadway and The Little Mermaid was the absolute worst. I will admit that I thought Tarzan was very underrated and was sad to see it go. However, this juvenile piece of junk should have left last year. The Disneyworld version is actually better.

The movie was so perfect that I could never bring myself to see the musical. This business of repurposing every property into a show on Broadway is a trend I hope will soon come to an end.

    Amen to Joe C’s comment!!!

Yes, this was a bad production all around.

Take your kids to “Shrek the Musical” this summer and after. “The Little Mermaid” musical could’ve been better and was a poor replacement for “Beauty & the Beast.”
