He’s doing a great job in the London production.

I really wish David Tennant’s production of Hamlet were coming to Broadway instead. I’m a big fan of his, and that production was said to be amazing.

I agree with Laura, Tennant was apparently excellent (and he’s even agreed to do a TV performance with the cast too FYI keep your eyes out for that) but I can also see Law being a good Hamlet as well, I wonder if anyone else will join him in the cast, like Tennant had Patrick Stewart as Claudius, I would love to see Brian Cox as Claudius for this

I’m eagerly awaiting the broadcast of David Tennant’s Hamlet later this year/early next year. That’s the ONLY Hamlet I have any interest in seeing. Sorry, Jude.

Agreed — David Tennant’s HAMLET would be a better suit to Broadway, but I’ll bet the US producers wrongly think that Jude Law will draw better crowds because he’s been in US Hollywood blockbusters.
Bring in Tennant and I’ll bet the crowds would be just as large, if not larger.

I am huge fan of Jude Law. I’m so sad he has to off to Broadway; much rather see him on the big screen. He can caputure and show emotion so well. I wish the best.

Whilst Jude Law got OK reviews here in the UK David Tennant proved that you can completely win the critics over with his breathtaking performance. And in my opinion it would have been harder for David as he had the “stigma” of being the lead in a family TV drama to contend with – being refered to “as that guy from Doctor Who”. Broadway has missed out on an amazing ensemble production but Law will pull in the crowds there is no doubting that. I was lucky in seeing the RSC’s Hamlet in both Stratford and London and it was the best production of anything I have ever seen in 30 years of going to the theatre. The DVD is highly anticipated – and reading the daily blogs on the media production site made it sound truly fabulous.

I too wish it were David Tennant’s Hamlet coming to Broadway instead of Jude Law. I agree with editrx, the producers probably thought his name would bring in more people. I think they underestimate the number of people who watch British programming via PBS, BBCAmerica and the SciFi channel. At least we have the DVD to look forward to. I can’t wait!

Add me to the vote for David Tennant’s Hamlet. I went to England to see it, and I’d return if it was still playing. Jude Law – meh.

It’s David Tennant’s Hamlet for me, all the way. Watch for it on PBS early next year and you’ll see. Sorry to Jude as well.

What a wasted opportunity. I would have flown cross-country to see David Temnant as Hamlet on Broadway. Jude Law? Don’t care. I think David Tennant on Broadway as Hamlet would have been an immediate sell-out and a total sensation and media event. Not so with Jude Law.

I’ve seen both, and I don’t see why it has to be a choice like a gang of sad kids with the old “Blur-v-Oasis” type pettiness.
Both actors gave very different, individual and absolutely fantastic performances. I’d reccommend the Donmar production to anyone. Ron Cook as Polonius is outstanding and Gugu M’batha Raw is very much a rising star and I wish them a successful transfer Stateside.

I call bull on the endless posts about David Tennent…they all sound the same. This is the only site on which I’ve seen such promotion for Tennant and against Law. I, for one, Have purchased my ticket for Law’s Hamlet in NYC. I, for one, have many friends who have flown/will soon fly across the Atlantic to see Law’s Hamlet in London, having purchased their tickets over a year ago…not something I or they would have done if it was Tennant. Most of them will also be attending his performance in NYC. So your assumptions about Tennants greater impact on Broadway are inaccurate, in my opinion. Their performances are different, and I’ve read many audience reactions that favor Law’s performance. Not saying everyone does, just saying, it is the way it is. End of story. Watch it on TV.

Meh, people can say what they want about how pretty Jude Law is, but personally, I think good old Jude’s hot streak has run its course for a few years now (does anybody want to remember “Alfie”?). He can stick to playing sidekick to Robert Downey Jr. thank you very much. Perhaps I am biased, and I will admit that I can’t really judge on performances since I haven’t Jude’s, but frankly, given his track-record with movies in the past that I have seen him in, he lacks that charisma and versatility that David brings to his performances. I would MUCH rather see David as Hamlet (and yay, all of us in North America get to this spring on PBS). Jude Law was semi-popular seven years ago, but now it is David’s turn to shine!
