Janet Jackson made an unexpected appearance on stage near the close of last night's 2009 BET Awards show to honor her brother and thank fans for their support following his death on Thursday.
"My entire family wanted to be here tonight, but it was just too painful," a visibly emotional but composed Jackson told the audience. "To you, Michael is an icon; to us, Michael is family and he will forever live in all of our hearts."
Joe Jackson, Janet and Michael's father, was seated near the front of the audience but did not participate in the ceremony. After Jackson left the stage, the show ended with a performance of the Jackson 5 hit "I'll Be There" by show host Jamie Foxx and Ne-Yo, who was named Best Male R&B Artist earlier in the night.

Those media whore Jacksons just can’t resist the spotlight. Go home and mourn the loss of your paycheck.
Can’t believe she made the show. Not sure what to think of it…

You people are sick. She’s acknowledged the folks that were celebrating Michael at the ceremony on behalf of her family. What’s wrong with that? BTW Janet and the other brothers all perform and make their own money–seriously, the man’s been dead less than 72 hours.
I think that was an extremely thoughtful and brave thing for Janet to do.
Janet’s brief speech, followed by Foxx and Ne-yo’s performance of “I’ll Be There” really made MJ’s death “settle in” for me…and many in the audience who were shown with tears streaming down their faces. It’s still hard to fathom. It must be torturous for his family, and with a probable legal fight looming over custody of the kids, it may only get worse for them. Sad and tragic.
I hope that his death, following those of Anna Nicole Smith and Heath Ledger really wake up a LOT of people of the dangers of mixing prescription drugs as that is now the Number One cause of drug overdoses in the US. But, I’m sure that it will all be quickly forgotten, as Heath didn’t learn from Anna, and Michael didn’t learn from Heath, and it now appears that Billy Mays and family didn’t learn anything from Natasha Richardson’s death.
Mourn the loss of your paycheck!! That is classic. I could not believe they were there either. Funeral arrangements? Hello.
Michael was in debt. He wasn’t sending anyone a paycheck. Why would anyone even say that?
I feel bad for Michael. First Jamie Foxx has to show his typical filthy talk at a moment when it should be respectful for Michael. Then all of sudden all the Michael Jackson fans come out of hiding. If he was their hero where where they when he needed help all these years. Then we have to tolerate Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson going wherever there is a camera for their own personal gain. Even after death, people want to steal and make a buck off of Michael. What they need to do is look themselves in the mirror and ask themselves how they contributed to the destruction of this man, family, friends, doctors, lawyers, etc. I saw this as no tribute, but a chance to look good in front of the camera and pat themselves on the back at Michael’s expense.

They make you do a little survey but after that it’s good to go
Just wondering – in all of the coverage of MJ’s death – nothing from Diana Ross…
Smile because he Lived
You can shed tears that he is gone,
or you can smile because he lived,
You can close your eyes and pray that he will come back,
or you can open your eyes and see all that he has left.
Your heart can be empty because you can’t see him,
or you can be full of the love that you shared,
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday,
or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember him and only that he is gone,
or you can cherish his memory and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn back,
or you can do what he would want:
Smile, open your eyes, love and go on. ~ R.I.P. Michael Jackson you will never be forgotten. My prayers to the family.~

j- Diana Ross did issue a statement. I didn’t see Janet at the awards – after listening to that sad excuse for a father – JOe, I couldn’t stomach anymore. Now I know for sure that everything Michael said about his father was true. Joe Jackson is not there grieving for his SON, he’s checking out opportunities for himself and his latest venture. He’s disgusting.
I don’t think it’s wrong in any way for people to be angry at mj’s father. When a person dies, it’s so normal to be angry and to want a reason that makes sense as to why we lose somebody we love or care very much about.
Why Mr. Joe Jackson were you such and SOB? I’m not very religious. But if there is a heaven and hell, your going downstairs. And you’re taking all the other people that abuse children with you.
Sorry Janet, but you know the truth about your father. People can only learn from knowing what happened. It might be in some nasty tabloid in week or two anyway. A lot of it’s out there anyway.
Janet looked beautiful, and her appearance was classy and a great thing to do for the fans. Brave woman. RIP Michael. You will live on forever, as a true legend.
Janet Jackson, BET, Jamie Foxx and the entire cast of stars and celebrities did an absolute fantastic job in remembering Michael Jackson. Let all your negative comments go. Just remember what a legacy he left for us.

No it is you who are disturbed. He died. They have their attention whore friends Al and Jesse involved, they have requested their own autopsy, and now every little secret is going to come out. Instead of staying home with the kids they are out getting publicity. THAT IS SICK!!!
You’re a moron!!! Who will you learn from. Maybe Nicole Simpson?
It might be easy for you Mr. Smith to forget about all the negative stuff. You maybe were never abused as child to know how it feels. Michael is DEAD, maybe, just maybe he would still be with us, maybe he would have lead a happier life.
People can survice an abusive childhood if they get help from from the right professionals, not drug dealers.
So go ahead Mr. Smith, enjoy all the fanfare and celebrations. I’m sure Michael would have enjoyed them too.
I mourn now for that little boy who became a man, with our the resouces and streght to be a man.
So you go ahead and sweep itallll under that rug to stay. Can learn with learn nothing from this tradgedy?
How dumb are you? Lot’s of people are in debt and still get paychecks. Are you retarded? Besides the numerous checks for all the music he owns of others, he gets big buck royalties on his own. Daddy will be richer without Michael. Now it doesn’t have to be split as many ways and if he can keep his clutches on those kiddies he’s good till he kicks the bucket too. then maybe he can sue all the doctors who did all of Michaels surgeries and perscribed all the drugs.$$$$$$Ka ching$$$ Jackpot$$$$
HAs this moment been you tubed yet.

the only way that Michael Jackson ever would have gotten clean would have been through intervention and prolonged hospitalization. the only ones who had the power to see that come to fruition were his family members.
blame the addict for the continuing addiction, blame the family for enabling the addiction.
i grew up with Michael Jackson and i have to wonder…..why would any parents let their young boy spend the night with Michael Jackson after the confidential settlement? if children were molested following the 1993 settlement, their parents are partially to blame.
either way, i feel a loss. i loved him when i was little.

interesting that MIA won best female hip hop artist
Why paint everyone with the same brush. Joe Jackson yesterday-absolutely attrocious. Jessie Jackson/Al Sharpton..I rolled my eyes when I saw them and then shut my eyes and ears quick…go the heck home!!…Janet’s appearance at the end of the show, PERFECT, a graceful/grateful spokesperson on behalf of the family…I personally needed to see/hear her. She brought it all home….this is for real. They almost lost me after that crude performance from L’il Wayne, I couldn’t really stomach hearing Michael’s name coming out of his mouth during THAT performance, and Jamie Fox is as foul-mouthed as ever, inappropriate. I really enjoyed 90% of the show though..great tribute….therapeutic…we all needed that, I think.
It’s gonna be a long, painful road for their family.
Michael RIP, I love you!
The 2009 BET Awards show remembering Michael Jackson was a wonderful gesture, but not very well executed –not enough finesse and the little girl who said the “icon” from the original “Star Trek” TV show was “in the bathroom” showed her lack of maturity.
I think Bet and all the stars did a great job of commemorating the memory of MJ given that they had only a very short time to pull it of. Neyo stole the show hands down. It is great to see the african american community come together whole heartedly to give honor to someone who has touched all of our lives in a special way. God bless the Jackson family.
Comemorations to the Jackson family for their contributions to the Era of musical interception by means of enpowering Micheal to enable him to be the innovating tool which changed the world. Thanks for your contributions, Janet needs to re-enter the world stage and continue where Micheal left off. Lots of love and respect to the Jackson family and respect to BET always and big up the latest queen Beyonce.
that’s really upset
