Kenny Ortega, the concert director behind Jackson's comeback tour, hopes to launch a tribute to the late pop star in place of the shows Jackson was supposed to headline this summer in London, according to the L.A. Times. Ortega told reporters that he was envisioning a show that would make use of the costumes and choreography intended for Jackson's "This Is It" tour. Though there are no official plans at this point, Ortega is apparently also considering a collaboration in the style of Jackson's 1985 "We Are the World" charity tune. "Maybe part of what we were planning to do in London and beyond — maybewe can share some of these ideas in a different capacity," Ortega told the Times.

uh oh someone is trying to get away with not refunding tickets.
It’s funny, my mom suggested exactly this as an idea to replace the concerts a couple of days ago. Ignoring the cynical voices of not needing to refund, I think it could actually be really awesome, especially if other musicians collaborate to take part in it.
As long as they are still willing to give refunds, I think this is the perfect solution to the problem. I’m very interested to see who they have perform in MJ’s place.
With all of the artists who cite Michael Jackson as inspiration and an influence, they shouldn’t have trouble finding stars to help out.
I’m with Jon here, as soon as I read that, the first that came to mind is that this was his way of not refunding tickets.
There’s no cynicism here. You know that as the days go by people are going to do what people do best: take advantage of a situation by masking it as “tribute”. disgusting.
I wasn’t going to make it to one of the London shows but I would go to a local theater to see one of his concert films or a live broadcast of a tribute show. Keep the ideas coming and make it happen somebody!
It makes perfectly good sense. There’s a lot of $$$ tied up in the concert, and people want to be part of an “event”…and if they can line up named artists to do a tribute, that would be a big thing. I would pay to see it. If I had the money…however, they could put it online as a pay-per view or cable as a pay per view.
I was also thinking that something like this would be a great idea, as long as the proceeds go to his kids or charity.
