Michael Jackson: Sunday's BET Awards to honor musician

Sunday night's 9th Annual BET Awards will be dedicated to Michael Jackson, who died June 25 at the age of 50, according to CNN.com. BET Networks' CEO, Debra L. Lee, said the awards show, which honors African Americans in various entertainment media, will pay tribute to the musician's legacy. It is expected that many of the celebrities attending the show, including scheduled performers such as Beyonce and Ne-Yo, will also acknowledge Jackson and his influence on them. The BET Awards, which is hosted by Jamie Foxx, will air live on BET Sunday at 8 p.m. (the show will be tape-delayed on the west coast).

EW's Chad Schlegel and special guest Emil Wilbekin, managing editor or Essence.com, will be live-blogging the BET Awards at 8 p.m. EDT Sunday. Get a reminder here.

Perhaps the first major awards show to remember Michael Jackson a few days after his death. I hope that they ask some artists to come on stage and do a medley of his hits. I’m sure that every artist that will appear on the BET Awards has been hugely influenced by Michael.Doing it on the BET Awards is very timely and respectful. I hope that the American Music Awards in Nov. and the Grammys in 2010 will do the same with their Michael Jackson tributes.

See the BET Awards here when the air, it’s going to be really touching! Also see his **autopsy results** here, both pics and videos of the procedure at

You have to do a little survey then it takes you right to the autopsy files. Be strong… it’s kind of scary.

    To JIM ?
Where did you get your information.
One thing about it, no one will ever know or care who you are.
May you burn in hell and the ass you rode in on.

I will be waiting for it to come on also. But this should of been done why he was here so he could also see it for him self as they had done for others in the past. There is no reson for them to have pitcure of the autopsy on any thing that is privte if the family wants to see it thats one thing but not the world to see sorry but that how I feel. All I have to say is let Mr. Jackson rest in peace and give the family time to get over the loss of there loved one as you would want for your self.

It really is a sad day in history for all of us.Especially for his long time fans.Death is hurtful no matter what the stat-its.I lost my only brother nine and a half months ago and he died of the same thing heart failure at the age of 42.He had no prior problems and never was sick. His girlfriend woke up that Saturday morning and heard his breathing pattern changing and asked him to turn on his side and a few minutes later his breathing just stopped for no reason at all.In the 80’s he dressed like Micheal had long hair like Micheal and reminded us of Micheal. If he were alive today it would have really effected him.To the Jackson Family I wish you peace and I hope that you get the closure you need.To my brother P.J.A R.I.P 10/01/65-09/06/08 and Micheal Joe Jackson R.I.P 08/29/58-06/25/09

I think it was wonderful how BET so quickly put the show together. It was also great of the Jackson family to send Janet to thank BET and Michael’s fans. I couldn’t watch the whole show because “our” people can not sing nor rap. I thank the New Edition for coming back together to honor the man and I thank Ne-Yo for singing that first Michael Jackson song, but the rest of them people couldn’t sing nor rap. I turned it off after Jamie Foxx sung the song about alcohol. And weren’t the “Wayans” always making fun of Michael Jackson for the white people in their movies? BET did a great thing, thank you O’Jays you deserved it; however, we just need to find some more talented, soulful Black singers. And the rappers all need to listen to a tape called “Rapologist Speaks ‘94″ to “learn how to rap” these days. Queen Latefah needs to be shot talking about that kid can rap. Great thing to honor Michael, but like MS. Keyes said, “Give him his flowers while he’s alive”.

It was a disgraceful, embarassing, half-@$$ed, poorly thrown-together-at-the-last-minute travesty. Maybe a year from now, when the time was taken to do it right (let’s not forget what a perfectionist Michael was), it might have been ok. But just a few days after his shocking death, before he’s even buried, before we even know why it happened, there were so-called friends making fun of him, supposedly in his honor. Mr. Fox’s bizarre impersonation of him was tasteless at best. Asking the camera to focus on his crotch was disturbing. And the entire show was so poorly organized that one winner was still getting her make-up on. One presenter was in the bathroom. And the host was so desperately trying to fill time, that there were looong moments of unintentional silence. That will kill any live broadcast. The show was obviously originally intended to honor the OJays, and that’s what they should have done. Give Michael the respect of doing it right. He deserves that much from you.
