Monday night's massively hyped episode of Jon & Kate Plus Eight – in which the Gosselins announced their plans to divorce — attracted a whopping 10.6 million viewers, the largest audience ever for the TLC show. The special one-hour episode also achieved record ratings among women 18-49 (4.6 million) and persons 18-49 (6.5 million). It also exceeded the show's season debut on Memorial Day, which lured 9.8 million watchers. Jon & Kate is in its fifth season.
After a retrospective of the Gosselins' 10 years of marriage airs on June 29, the show will go on hiatus until Aug. 3 to give the family "some time off to regroup," says a TLC spokeswoman, who added that a "modified" schedule will be in place to support the family's transition. The cable network ordered a total of 40 episodes this season.

That’s a shame – now this show will never go away. They will just keep adding all kinds of circus shenanigans to pump ratings up. Those kids are doomed. Shame on everyone who tuned in.

Sam, shame on YOU for commenting on a show you have most likely never watched. If your shaming those who DO watch, one can only conclude that you don’t, therefore your comment has no sound basis and you should worry about issues that actually DO pertain to you.
If Kate had been as calm as she has been in recent episodes maybe all this wouldn’t have happened. She needs to watch some earlier episodes and reflect on the way she treated Jon. It was just a matter of time.

Is this entertainment? To watch 8 children now struggle through their lives without a stable home environment. A home should not be a freak show.

That’s an excellent point – and illustrates just how sick these people are.
This is real life people, happens everyday, nothing could of saved that marriage. Jon had his mind made up and that was it. They will all survive and I look forward to tuning into the next chapter. How fortunate and blessed those kids are to live that comfortable life with all the opportunities. What about all the kids that go through this everyday and have nothing. It will all turn out and Kate will be better off and find someone more suitable to her Type A personality rather then that WIMP that frankly doesn’t want the responsibility of full time parenting.
A home can still be happy even with a divorce. This just might be the best thing for the kids…the parents won’t be fighting all the time in front of them. That usually is more damaging for kids. Plus, if you ever watched the show, Kate might be yelling but Jon typically isn’t doing much to help. I have one kid and am going nuts…I can’t imagine it with 8!
I bet this is all for show just to drive ratings, and the Gosselins have just become actors. They are prolly getting paid TONS because all you fools are so into it. Sick on you all, not on them. They are playing you people like fools.

This is sad. People like to point the finger at Kate but in reality it takes two to tango. I have four kids and I know what strain it puts on the marriage I couldn’t even imagine doubling that. They will be in my prayers and I only wish them the best.
Well I am very sorry to see John and Kate divorce I cryed when I watched the show Monday night John and Kate are beatifull together with their familey I think the kids will be alright I will always watch the show because I feel like they are familey and I love them all and I feel like they are just as good as they always were and I will always be there for them I love those kids and want to watch them grow up on the show it is not right for the public to judge John and Kate they are human just like we are we all make mistakes but we learn and grow John and Kate please think long and hard before you end your marriage time can heal all wounds and love could return if you bouth want it just sit down and talk together open your hearts to each other you can love again it is very hard being in front of the camer all the time and it does put a strain on your marriage but when you are off the camer try and make up for it the world should not have had to explain what is going on to us.

This is real life, they should keep the show going. There are other reality shows that are stupid and people watch them anyway. This show is telling us that these things happen and it is ok because it shows us that we can get over these things. These people are not acting you can tell how hurt they are. Jon is very young he is only 32 per his own words. I don’t think he was ready for this responsibility and he got overwhelmed with everything. He is to passive and Kate is a very strong person. She was very forceful but someone had to be if Jon was not going to take charge. I can only guess how hard it is to take care of 8 children and still have a normal relationship with our spouse. I say God bless them and they have to think about themselves also not just the children. The children are important but so are they. I would like for the show to keep going I love it.

I do not think those children are doomed. No is doomed. People hit rock bottom once in a while and there is no where else to go but up. The children will be okay, and so will John and Kate. It’s necessary for them to take a good look at what they haven’t been able to actually LOOK at (Their own personal needs) because of the lack of privacy. My husband always says: “Believe half of what you see, and NONE of what you hear. If it’s on TV, don’t believe at all.”
Only insecure females, so insecure they only feel better if others fail, are the ones who watch this junk. IF your try to play off your interest as “this is entertainment”, your an even bigger loser.

I really don’t understand why anyone would be stupid enough to imagine that being on a so-called ‘reality show’ would be good (or even neutral) for children. I don’t care what adults do to themselves, but exploiting your kids for cash and/or fame should be illegal.

I think it’s pretty clear right now that the biggest argument between Jon and Kate IS the show, and the fame/attention it’s brought them. Jon wants out of this mess, Kate wants the money. Thus, this show has added even more pressure to an already stressful (8 kids) marriage. Jon and Kate brought this on themselves; what is disgusting is that their children had no choice. Sure, they aren’t doomed, but they will be branded by this experience and public exploitation of their family life forever.

I feel for those kids, because what they are having to go thru. I just wished the show would have been cancelled and they could have worked on their marriage. I am a multiple and my parents made it, they are now in their 37th yr of marriage and mom said the hardest is the first few years when we were babies but we survived it. Of course, God played a big role in their life. My dad knew his children came first. To the Gosselin Children I am praying for you.

shocked about jon he had a hair transplant his teeth whitening going to the gym ever day and lost weight and then what some girl looks at him and says hi and he thinks he is 16 years old again did kate think he was doing all that for her And the fact the kate is controlling yes but he new that and execepted her that way but now he is standing up for him self grow up jon you little baby you are no stud beleive me and when this show is over you will be just what you are a no one I will not be watching this show any more and it is because of jon no one else
