Reports: Walter Cronkite ailing

Walter-cronkite_l Former CBS news anchor Walter Cronkite is seriously ill, network sources told Media Bistro’s TV Newser blog yesterday. Last week, the network reportedly began updating the obituary for the 92-year-old newsman, who anchored the CBS Evening News for 19 years, earning him the moniker “Most Trusted Man in America.” When reached by EW, a spokesman for CBS News declined to comment on Cronkite’s health.

I love the guy but if he goes out at 92, he doesn’t have much to complain about.

Truly one of the great old-fashioned journalists. He was trusted because he was fair and straightforward.

The ONLY newsman I ever trusted.

  • orville

Very sad, but we’ve had a lot of great years with him. Truly a legend.

Sorry, but that’s kind of screwed up… “You’re old and sick – we’re gonna get started on that obit now, m’kay?” Best of luck and health to Uncle Walter…

We retired television news anchors have much to thank Walter Cronkite for – news clarity, concise writing, personal integrity. God bless you, Walter, and thanks for everything.

Sure wish we could find current day anchors who just told it “the way it is” without the hype and spin.
    Wishing you the best, Walter.

You can’t find anyone today that just tells the news. I’m amazed given his flaming liberal mentality that he could keep his mouth shut all those years and just dish the news. It’s a credit to him really. There is no one today that does it. It’s all propaganda

  • Mike

I have to admit, given his flaming liberal mentality, it’s a credit to him that he could keep his yap shut, and just dish the news. Nothing more; nothing less. It’s a credit to the guy really, and I respect him for just telling the facts. That kind of journalism is alien to every journalist today. They are all creeps really

He’s the last connection to the era of the Murrow Boys and the Tiffany Network.
I hope you live to be 100, Mr. Cronkite. You have always been a beacon to my generation, and I wish you good luck and Godspeed.

I love Walter BECAUSE he of his flaming liberal mentality! Get better soon buddy!

  • Mark

Just shut up with the name calling and ad hominem attacks.
Mr. Cronkite has more integrity in his nail-clippings than most folks have in their entire careers.

  • T Ouellette

Walter will be remembered as one of the giants when it comes TV and broadcasting. Who cannot remember his reaction the day Presidient Kennedy what killed?
