Katherine Heigl to return to 'Grey's Anatomy'

Categories: News, Television

Sources confirm to EW that Grey's Anatomy star Katherine Heigl's option has been picked up for another season of the ABC series. At the end of the last season of the medical drama, the fate of Heigl's character, Izzie, was left uncertain, as she underwent brain surgery following a diagnosis of stage 4 brain and liver cancer. Heigl had been rumored to be looking to exit the show in order to focus on her film career but in public statements maintained her desire to continue in the role.

Thank god for that! I hope she’ll stay for many years to come what an amazing actress!

Will…I guess it’s good news. But I don’t know how many were alienated by Knight’s departure.

I was hoping we’d seen the last of Izzie. Hopefully next season her memory will be lost so she can take on a new personality. Enough of Poor Suffering Izzie.

  • Daniel

    Love Katherine! Woohoo.

  • Dennis

    Thank god.
SHE IS THE BEST CHARACTER ON THE SHOW and a TERRIFIC actress!

  • Nathan

I get that people want to know this – but some people don’t. Do you really have to make it the headline of the story? Can’t you say something like “Katherine Heigl’s fate decided” or whatever?

  • Jen

    oh thank goodness.
    still bummed about t.r.

  • Jen

    oh thank goodness.
    still really bummed about T.R.

The shows more of a soap opera off screen than it is on screen. Im actually surpised as I thought she would leave.

I’m quite sure that I’ve already read this …

  • Ray

she has/had melanoma, same as me

  • RJ

I agree with Nathan, basically EW has ruined both cliffhangers in one day. Some people don’t want to know, more ambiguous headlines in the future please??

  • Non

In a few months she’ll stage another huge hystrionic outburst, wait for all of her fans to beg her not to leave, and then capitulate at the last minute. Again.

  • Kendra

She should die with George…oh well, I don’t think she’ll live much longer anyway. They might resuscitate her this time, but what about next time after she is pissed they went against her DNR and she couldn’t die with George her soulmate and see Denny in heaven?

  • Adam

Yea I agree. When I wrote the stories for my site, I always put SPOILER in the title, and the answer wasn’t in the title.
EW, you should really be careful in the future.

Why must we be tortured like this?

  • Anja

Woot..Woot..The Diva stays to give the show more bad publicity another day. Now we can have another season of IZZIE-FEST. What’s next To let this horrid character take over EVEN more screen time of Chandra Wilson and Sandra Oh? I suggest all the rest of the Grey’s Anatomy cast start going public with their hissy fits like Heigl. Maybe later Shonda can reward them by catering the show around them. TR Knight goes, but Heigl stays..? What’s wrong with this picture? Color me disappointed:(

  • snarkythismorn

Yay! The hubby disagrees, but I love her. Does this mean TR Knight will be back, too?

  • EW SPOILS IN TITLE YET AGAIN

Wow, so many people complain about this over and over, and yet you don’t listen.
Are the drugs and office sex still freely circulating in your office? Can’t you stay off them long enough to not put spoilers in the title of your articles?
Maybe it’s time to subscribe to another TV blog….this ‘TV Done Wright’ one looks pretty good…..

  • mel

SPOILERS WTF! Fvck this site man.

  • Linda

In reality, she would not live past four weeks with stage 4 brain cancer and liver cancer and would have an ugly end to her life (blood infections, confusion, in and out of consciousness, and hospice). Glad to see this annoying wench gone!

  • Eileen

Meybe TR should have whined too. Shonda seems to cater to diva and screw the nice ones like TR.
Katie didn’t even try and help Tr at all. Some friend she is.

  • Emma

I can’t believe she gets to stay over TR. This show is too female-centered as is. Now they’re letting TR go and keeping her, plus Arizona (can’t remember the real actresses name, forgive me). Maybe get someone to replace TR. OR just cut Callie and Arizona who have come to feel incredibly unnecessary, especially with TR gone (since George is the reason we’re stuck with Callie in the first place).

  • J

Well that ruined my hopes for next season.

  • me

that is what i call GREAT NEWS :D :D i m soooooooo happppy …love KH … i know some people are sad that TR is gone ! but dont be mad at her .. what has she done???!!!!! anyway she is a great actress and her work this season was unbelievable and definetly she is one of my favorite characters on the show

  • Josje

    This sucks.

  • Mark

There are some really ridiculous comments being posted here. How is Heigl a diva? How do you know this? The fact that her contract was renewed again should perhaps indicate the ridiculous nature of tabloid stories. In all of her time on Grey’s the only negative comment she has ever made was when she withdrew (justifiably) from the Emmys. EVERYTHING else you read from her is positive – even a few weeks ago she said she was happy to stay. Yet people prefer to believe that all is wrong on the set. The fact is in my opinion she will not be around for a very long time in Season 6 due to her characters illness but I for one will be glad to see more from such a talented actress.

  • Lianne

Wooohoo! This is great news. Grey’s wouldn’t have been the same without her. I love Katherine Heigl.

  • emma

awesome! very excited to hang onto her. i don’t really care what goes on behind the scenes. she did awesome work this season.
