Jon and Kate Gosselin to announce divorce, report says

Categories: News, Television

Jon and Kate Gosselin, stars of the popular TLC reality series Jon & Kate Plus Eight, will announce on Monday that they will file for divorce, according to Radaronline.com. The website is reporting that a source confirmed that Kate recently met with a divorce lawyer, and the couple had previously decided to separate by mid-July, but is now moving up the timetable. TLC has scheduled a special one-hour edition of the show for Monday; in a teaser spot for that episode, Kate says, "We've made some life-changing decisions." (The parents of eight are contracted for 40 episodes this year.) TLC declined to comment on the matter when contacted by EW.com.

    Sad, but not unexpected.

Been there. So sad for everyone especially the children. Some advice for the teacher…if a man with 8 kids will cheat on his wife…don’t think for a minute he won’t cheat on you.

  • Dennis

Jon, best decision you have ever made!

  • DeborahB

Sad for the kids. Some advice for the teacher. If a man with 8 kids will cheat on his wife, don’t think for a minute he won’t cheat on you.

Not a fan of the show, but I still feel bad for them and the children.

  • Ben

Who will want him when he has to get a real job and pay half his income for child support? Who will want her with 8 kids and being the relationship vampire she has been seen to be on tv? He’s a louse for cheating, but why did he marry this harpy in the first place?

  • Darlene

From Mady catching Kate kissing Steve to Jon rolling up a blunt, this has really become a total bombshell. I am so totally turned off by this show and it is so sad.

  • Jo Anne

It is very sad news. It is time to be honest and let the chips fall where they may. You can’t keep living a lie, the kids deserve the truth.

  • Emmy

Selfish, selfish, selfish!!! Bring 8 children into this world and then rip their home apart. It is inexcusable!

  • Exnvywfe

I feel so sad for the kids. Their parents put this whole ordeal upon them. I don’t feel sorry for either parent because they were both being selfish!

  • Kerky

Very sad, I remember when the show first started and they seemed so young and so in love with each other, with their children and with life. Look at them now, he acts like he doesn’t know how this happened, being a husband and father of 8, he just wants to be Jon. Grow up, Jon. And Kate looks and acts like some diva instead of a wife and mother. Very sad.

no, jon will NOT pay half his income in child support. if they split custody, and she retains a high salary, more than likely SHE will pay HIM support. i am sure they will share joint custody. child support is calculated on using both parent’s incomes…there is also a cap on what can be asked for…as long as these kids have money in the bank (although i doubt it), and the cameras removed, they might be okay..but, they will have to have family counseling to get through this mess. can you imagine having your entire life videotaped for strangers to watch? jon and kate didn’t have time to do it themselves…perhaps if they did, this all would have turned out quite differently.

They need to go ahead and cancel the rest of the shows.Ive watched every show so far but will never watch another

this is sad. kate had her ways the show. the way she treated him sometimes on national tv. u can’t blame him for wanted to hang out with other people. i really feel for the kids tho.

  • Joppa

Absolutely fantastic. Live life like narcissistic losers and, well, the results speak for themselves. I am sure the kids will score a book deal.

  • jb

Anyone who has watched the show is aware of how terrible Jon is treated by his wife.
When looking back on this, you have to wonder: Where did Kate think it was going by treating her husband so badly, and then doing so on a national tv show no less. Didn’t she see the importance of trying to get along for the sake of their family ? No, it was more important to look good for the camera and to make her husband look like a buffoon whenever possible to the tv audience.
I have no pity for her whatsoever and wish somehow the pain she has caused could come back on her without effecting her kids. Jon, I just feel sorry for.

  • Caron

Jon, best decision you can make, I don’t now how you put up with her for so long. Take the show off air and let those kids grow up to be normal kids. Money does not make happiness.

  • abhija

this is so sad. I really wished they would try to make it work. i always watched the show and they wanted the kids so bad, now, fame and fortune has come between what they prayed for that they are losing everything by the minute. its just really sad

Divorce is hard on everyone, mostly the innocent children. They are loved, not only by their parents, but by all America. Good Luck to them.

  • K

I hope for the sake of their family that this is untrue. A more rational life-changing announcement would be a decision to break their contract with TLC and try, as best they can, to work through their issues. They owe their children that much.

  • TD

Who cares? This is the very best example of bad TV. It’s exploitive and panders only to those ghouls who have nothing better to do with their lives. The saddest part is that there are some 9.8 million morons in the country who live to watch this travesty. If this is the best TV has to offer, I’m selling mine.

  • Cloy Claying

Jon deserves so much better than that awful Kate. She is rude, belittling and just plan nasty. These poor children only have a couple of years left before they can Google this entire mess. The children obviously love and adore their father and terrified and bewildered with Kate. She used these poor kids for years to seek some sort of fame…Well, you’ve got your fame and 8 potentially screwed up kids, Kate..CONGRATULATIONS!

  • Likris

They need to stop these family reality shows, they do not end up happy, look at the Newlyweds, Hulk Hogan, etc.

  • CONNIE

I JUST BELIVE THAT KATE WAS SO RUDE TO JON ON THE SHOW BY YELLING AT HIM AND TELLIN HIM TO DO SO MUCH OR HER.SHE IS ABLE TO GET UP AND D THEM HERSELF,THE WAAY SHE I DOING RIGHT KNOW WITHOUT HIM.I DONT BLAME HM FOR LEAVEING HER BUT THE CHILDREN WILL BE TH ONES THAT WILL HURT THE MOST.

  • sara

It’s sad for the kids, but so obvious that Jon had had it with her and he was done. How much you want to bet Kate and TLC will keep doing the show during the times she has custody of the kids. I don’t see that woman giving up her weekly exposure on tv until no one is watching tv anymore and TLC decides to cancel it. She loves the fame.

  • Cali Kinder mom

Never watched the show but you can’t escape the Gosselins: this family is plastered everywhere. As with all divorces, the kids will suffer the most – and I wonder how they’ll feel when they grow older and actually watch the show for themselves. Would have been better if the “life-changing” decision made by these parents was to turn off the tv cameras and put the focus on healing their family in private.

  • Pl

Millions of people are going through divorce each year in this country, and were not paid for it.
At least, they got some financial benefits out of this, and Kate probably got some off-shoot deal after this show is over.
Kate is getting it over her head with the fame, and a poor model for a wife for treating Jon badly. Honestly, I think that she would be divorced by any husband for the way she treated Jon, regardless whether they have a show or not. So, please don’t blame the show.

  • Matt

It’s about time he got out. It’s a shame he had kids with that awful woman.

  • J

It IS sad that they’re getting a divorce, particularly since the kids are involved. But hooray for Jon…first thing he’s going to do is open a beer, fire up a big cigar and celebrate.

  • fran

    Run Jon Run!!!
