CBS announced today that it will air the 61st Annual Primetime Emmys on Sunday, Sept. 20, instead of the previously announced Sept. 13. The decision was made after the network learned that its sister cable network MTV was airing the Video Music Awards on the same day. "We had the flexibility to move; they didn't," according to a statement from Jack Sussman, exec VP of specials at CBS. "It's best for the industry and the audience that these events not compete against each other."

“It’s best for the industry and the audience that these events not compete against each other.”
BIG TIME, they need every single viewer that they can get.
No one will watch the Emmy’s. It’s up against the Giants/Cowboys game at the new stadium in Dallas.
Irv–I have a feeling the Emmy’s and the Giants/Cowboys game have a tad bit different prime demographic. I don’t think it will be that big of a problem for either entity.
I`ve never really liked that the Emmy`s get aired at this time anyway. Back to that one year when Conan hosted, they had the Emmy`s coming on in late August. I think that`s the perfect time because some shows come back in early September and the Emmy`s should always air before any of those shows come back. That`s one of the things that ruined the Emmy`s for me last year.
