Letterman's Palin jokes slammed by conservative women's group

Tags:

David Letterman was sharply criticized for the jokes he told about Sarah Palin and her daughter earlier this week by a conservative public policy group which promotes "biblical values and family traditions," according to its website. Wendy Wright, president of Concerned Women for America, told Fox News that the talk show host's jokes about the former Vice Presidential candidate were "reprehensible" and "a pretty ugly reflection of who Letterman may be."

What’s truly reprehensible is this group of right-wing nuts, including the Palin family. Nuke Alaska!

Mr. Letterman, I will never watch your show again. You and your laughting audience are what’s wrong with our nation today. I am sure your mother was disappointed with your jokes. The right thing would be to say you’re sorry.

Maybe some good will come of this. So, thanks NOW for jumping on it while it is on the burner. I even think A/Rod deserves an apology. Relentless crude attacks on women regardless of party affiliation should stop. Stay tuned and keep them all on their toes.

“According to expense reports, Sarah Palin charged the state of Alaska over $21,000 for her children to travel with her on official business. In fairness to Governor Palin, when she leaves them home alone, they get pregnant.”
This was a (very funny) joke told by Seth Meyers on Weekend Update. In October. Yet no one got so furious over this. Can someone please explain to me?

This whole story is ridiculous. Letterman is a comedian; if the right-wingers don’t like liberals cracking jokes at their expense, learn comedy and crack your own jokes. Republicans have no sense of humor (except for John McCain).

  • Q

Lequida…it is clear you never watched it to begin with. Letterman has been cracking jokes about Sarah Palin and Bristol for months.

So how come they don’t jump all over Rush Limbaugh when he has made disgusting, horrible remarks about Michele Obama, Hillary Clinton or Sonia Sotomayor. Letterman is at least a comedian even if people don’t find his jokes funny. Limbaugh is not and he reachs far more millions of people then Letterman does.

Unbelievable. The double standard of the left is truly mindblowing. Imus was fired for an equally reprehensible “joke”. Letterman was plain wrong on this one and as a national figure with a forum should go the same way as Imus. Truly pathetic and misguided behaviour from Letterman and his supporters.

Bristol is the one who got “knocked up” and recently made herself a spokesperson for abstinence. The woman is 18 and an adult, and she’s decided to be a spokesperson for abstinence. This isn’t about being the child of a politician any more. She decided to be a public figure, and when you put yourself on display like that, you are fair game.
I think a lot of this outrage is disingenous — they’re still trying to payback Dave for calling out McCain for lying to him before the election.

So nice to see that an organization “which promotes ‘biblical values and family traditions’” is siding with the one who engaged in pre-marital sex and is currently raising a child out of wedlock. Lovely double standard.

    Hey Liz,
Get your facts straight….stupid a$$ Letterman was talking about the 14 year old daughter of Sarah Palin. Now try and defend him.

  • mick

To XeraSys: If Letterman should be fired then Rush Limbaugh should have been fired along time ago. He has made far more disgusting comments about democratic woman then the jokes that Letterman made. Talk about double standard.

  • XeraSys

I don’t disagree Mick. Imus, Rush, Letterman. Left or Right. Makes no difference to me. May be a sexist joke about Letterman’s wife and son is OK with you…..like I said….truly pathetic all round..

  • Q

John…get YOUR facts straight. Show me an exact quote where Letterman is referring to Willow.

  • michelle

This is cracking me up. Yes, the jokes were tacky. He has done tacky before. But the real deal is Palin as a mother should have given her daughter birth control since she is against abortion. So now we have a unwed mother (b/f bailed, he was not stupid) and a young woman that will not have the life she could have if her mother was not so hell bent politically (she was never going to win) and taught Bristol birth control since abstenance didn’t work (give me a break) Paling obviously didn’t have the talk so now she is stuck raising a baby alone, and missing out on life. I feel for the baby…not Bristol or Palin. they both deserve everything they get from the American people, comedians or what ever. This is stupid…
