Following a report on New York Magazine's Vulture Blog that Best Week Ever has been effectively cancelled, a rep for VH1 tells EWthat the show is returning in January following an extended hiatus this year, but says the network isconsidering another "revamp" between now and then – and that revamp mayor may not include current host Paul F. Tompkins. The rep said the long hiatus was to give the network time to "work out some kinks." BWE has been on the air since 2004 and switched to the Tompkins-hosted format in October 2008.
Talk about it on PopWatch:
Best Week Ever, whatever: Save Paul F. Tompkins!

The original concept of Best Week Ever was the best. But now, it’s not nearly as funny. I have given up on BWE long ago and get all of my snarky commentary on the week’s TV and goings on from the Soup! Viva la Joel McHale!
The Soup has absolutely destroyed Best Week Ever. They should just stop now. They don’t get that we don’t want (or maybe this is just me) warmed over jokes on celeb news targets like Lindsey and Britney all the time..we want ridic reality show clips 24/7!!
The original BWE format was so much better. Especially since it used to feature one Chelsea Handler- love her!
Best Week Ever used to be hilarious when they had lots of people talking about the different topics, but it’s just not funny anymore with one or two people the whole time.
I agree that the original Best Week Ever was hysterical. I loved it. Now that it’s all Paul F. Tompkins it’s unbearable. Demote Paul and bring back Frangela!
Well, there goes the last show I watched on that god-forsaken channel. Have fun with your STD-filled hoochie shows!
They should have it on Sunday or Monday, when I am home to watch. http://cutecatholics.com
UGHHH… I have not been a fan of the PFT solo-hosting format at all (though I like him in general), but I will still miss this. I want them to return to their old format– some fun comedians dishing about the week’s pop culture events as if they were talking to their own friends.
Get rid of “The Sizzler” (least funny segment on the show, IMO), axe the guest spots from people promoting TV shows/movies (it doesn’t work with the rest of the show), and add in some FEMALE comedians, for cripe’s sake! Jessica St. Clair, Frangela, etc. Why did they fix what wasn’t broken in the first place?
I am very happy to hear this news. The current version of Best Week Ever is certainly in need of having some “kinks worked out.”
–The solo-host format is far too similar to Joel McHale and The Soup. (And I’m sorry, but Mr. Tompkins is no Mr. McHale). Besides, it was the commentary of SEVERAL pop culture connoisseurs that made me (and others) fall in love with BWE. It was the comfort of all the VH1 instant-nostalgia shows (I Love the…blah blah blah). We like our recycled culture to be simple…this new format was a bit overcooked. Too many gimmicks. Show us the clips, comment, make us laugh.
That’s what The Soup does.
why in the world did they ever change it from the original format? it was perfect. now it’s just awful.
please please bring back the original format!
and while i’m on it, please bring back the vh1 that existed before flavor of love brought on this new era of trashy to the network.
Wonder why they change from the original format, Paul isn’t that funny.
Count me amongst those that think they never should have changed it. The original format was MUCH better.
Completely the right decision. “Best Week Ever”‘ lost all cultural relevance when “The Soup” blew up. Trying to change “Best Week Ever” to be “The Soup” just showed how inferior it really was. Change it back to the original format, with some of the actually funny talent that it used to have (I’m sure Rachael Harris and Michael Colton/John Aboud could use the work).
The Original format was the best! It turned lame when Pauk Tompkins was turned into the host. KEEP IT the way it was when there was variety and differnt comics chimin in
They tried to make it like The Soup, and that isn’t why I watched it. They don’t need a revamp, it needs a devamp
