David Letterman in talks to remain on CBS through 2012

Tags:

David Letterman is closing in on a deal with CBS to extend Late Show with David Letterman through the 2011-12 season, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The news of the talks comes just one week after new rival Conan O'Brien began his tenure at the helm of NBC's venerated The Tonight Show. The deal, which reportedly includes a lower license fee due to the shaky economy, would mean Letterman, 62, will have hosted his CBS show for nearly 20 years. It was unclear whether the host's $30 million annual salary will also be cut.

YAY!!! Watching the show right now and I don’t wanna watch nothing else between 11:35-12:38. Long live Dave!

Not since Johnny Carson has late night TV had a host as witty, off the cuff and talented as Dave.
Both my wife and I think that Dave softened a bit after his open heart surgery years ago. It made him a more human and better entertainer.
I have been a fan of Dave’s since his guest hosting days on Carson’s Tonight Show, thru his morning show and over to CBS’ late night.
It will be a sadder, darker TV landscape when Dave decides to close up shop.
Here is hoping for another FIVE YEARS at least from the King of Late Night.

The guy has been phoning it in since the mid-90s. If CBS is sucker enough to pay him then so be it, but Letterman seems to be s’ing on them every half azz show he does. I quit watching him in the mid-90s, but on the rare occasions I can tolerate the show for 15 minutes max, you can see he does the same bits day after day after day. Same boring act.
