Grieving Travolta opts out of 'Pelham 123' press appearances

Categories: Movies

John-Travolta-Jett_l In a statement signaling that he will not participate in publicity efforts for his upcoming movie The Taking of Pelham 123, John Travolta took to his website to thank fans for their support. Travolta, said to still be recovering from the tragic death of his 16-year-old son Jett in January, stars with Denzel Washington in the remake of the 1974 action flick about a subway heist, due in theaters Friday. On his site Travolta credits the film’s co-stars, director Tony Scott, and executives at Sony Pictures for carrying the burden of a publicity tour for him, noting that “their unselfish efforts have allowed my family the additional time to reconcile our loss.” Travolta and his wife Kelly Preston have not yet resumed public appearances since the January 2 death of their son, who is reported to have suffered a seizure.

Looking forward to the film, and understanding of Travolta’s choice. I can’t imagine being in his shoes.
