'Nip/Tuck,' 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' season premieres announced

FX has announced the return dates for three of its returning series, including the fifth season debut of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and the start date for the penultimate season of Nip/Tuck. Sunny, starring Danny DeVito and Rob McElhenny, will bow Sept. 17 and run for 12 weeks; Nip/Tuck, featuring Julian McMahon and Dylan Walsh, returns in October for 10 weeks. Sons of Anarchy, starring Ron Perlman, is back on Sept. 8 for 13 weeks.

FX will also debut a yet-to-be-announced new comedy to air with Sunny this fall.

Jude Law heading to Broadway in 'Hamlet'

Jude Law will headline a production of Hamlet on Broadway, according to The New York Times. The production originated in London, where it was performed at the Donmar Warehouse. The Shakespeare play will run for 12 weeks at the Broadhurst Theater in New York City.

'The Little Mermaid' on Broadway to close Aug. 30

Disney's stage adaptation of its 1989 animated hit The Little Mermaid will end its Broadway run at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on Aug. 30 after 685 performances (or 735, if you also count the 50 previews). The show — which received good reviews from the likes of Time and Wall Street Journal -- will begin a national tour in 2010.

Michael Jackson business partner warns Santa Barbara residents that mourners are coming

A businessman who set up a joint venture with Michael Jackson to take ownership of Neverland Ranch has written an an open letter to Santa Barbara residents warning them that mourners are about to converge on their community, according to press reports. Thomas J. BarrackJr. told residents that they must "prepare to accommodate Michael's family's wishes asthey contemplate the location of his final resting place and their ownreturn to the tranquil grounds of the Michael Jackson family compound." A viewing of Jackson's body is set to occur Friday at the 2,500-acre ranch within the Santa Barbara County limits.

Reports also indicate that the California Highway Patrol is anticipating dire traffic conditions on the Southern California highways when the Jackson caravan begins its long sojourn from Los Angeles to the Santa Barbara area. Says Sgt. Mark Garrett, "It's just like when the president comes to town," Garrett said. "Wewant to ensure people are not putting themselves in danger."

'Oleanna' with Julia Stiles and Bill Pullman is Broadway bound

Oleanna, David Mamet's mid-'90s dissection of collegiate political correctness, will make its belated Broadway debut this fall in a production starring Bill Pullman as a university professor and Julia Stiles as his initially meek but increasingly emboldened student. Director Doug Hughes' production, which opened this month at Los Angeles' Mark Taper Forum to mostly favorable reviews (see EW's own review), will begin previews on Sept. 29 at the Golden Theatre for an Oct. 11 opening.

Vibe magazine to close

Urban music magazine Vibe is folding, according to the New York Times website. The latest victim of the media recession was founded by Quincy Jones in 1992 just as hip hop was exploding in popularity and crossing over to mainstream American audiences.

Al Franken ruled winner of Minnesota Senate race

The Minnesota Supreme Court has ruled that Al Franken is the winner of the state's disputed U.S. Senate race, CNN reports. The Senate seat has been open since last November's election, which pitted Democrat Franken against Republican Norm Coleman.

BET Awards score cable channel's biggest ratings ever with Jackson tribute

Last Sunday's BET Awards, which were dedicated to Michael Jackson, drew nearly 10.7 million viewers and gave the cable channel its biggest audience ever. The live show also stands as the No. 1 cable telecast of 2009 among total viewers and adults 18-49. The BET Awards '09 proved popular for BET.com, as well. The website saw a 100 percent increase in unique viewers compared to 2008's show day. Coverage of the awards and Michael Jackson's passing pushed BET.com's traffic to an all-time high in June. The BET Awards '09, which featured tributes to Jackson and an appearance by sister Janet, will encore June 30 at 6:30 p.m., July 2 at 8 p.m., and July 6 at 8 p.m. ET.

Michael Jackson's body being taken to Neverland Ranch for public viewing

CNN reports that Michael Jackson's body is being taken to Neverland Ranch in California's Santa Barbara County for public viewing on Friday. A private memorial service is scheduled for Sunday. It is still not known where Jackson will be buried. Gary, Ind. Mayor Rudy Clay says he has been in touch with the Jackson family and that he believes the singer's body will rest in his hometown of Gary.

Denzel Washington film 'Unstoppable' could be delayed by budget concerns

The fall start date for Unstoppable, Denzel Washington's next collaboration with his Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 director Tony Scott, may be in jeopardy as Fox scrutinizes the budget. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio is pausing to evaluate the price of the action-thriller, about a runaway train carrying toxic chemicals, and deals haven't been sealed with Scott, Washington, or Star Trek's Chris Pine, who is expected to costar. Neither the studio nor producers would comment for the trade's report.
