Release date for new, untitled Michael Moore documentary announced

In a press release issued today, Overture Films and Paramount Vantage announced that Oscar-winner Michael Moore’s new documentary feature, described as an exploration of the current global financial crisis and "a comical lookat the corporate and political shenanigans that culminated in whatMoore has described as ‘the biggest robbery in the history of thiscountry,’ the massive transfer of U.S. taxpayer money to private financial institutions," will be released on October 2, 2009 — a date, they note, that comes a year and a day after the U.S.Senate voted for Wall Street’s $700 billion bailout.

Jay Mohr to write memoir

Brace yourselves, Gary Unmarried fans: Actor/comedian Jay Mohr will be publishing a memoir, publisher Simon & Schuster announced today. In the book, which has not yet been titled, Mohr will share anecdotes about fatherhood (some example subjects: dirty diapers, spanking, and early-to-rise children). “Jay Mohr has proven time and time again that whether on stage, on television, or on the big screen, he has an unfailing ability to make people laugh. We are delighted to be bringing his brand of humor to the page,” editor Kerri Kolen said in a press release. Look for the book on stands in 2010.

'Spider-Man 3' actress Lucy Gordon found dead

British actress Lucy Gordon, who appeared in 2007′s Spider-Man 3, was found dead from an apparent suicide in her Paris apartment, according to The Huffington Post. The Post reports, "An official with the Paris police headquarters says an autopsy has beenordered to determine the cause of death. The official said Thursday itappeared to be a suicide, but gave no details." Gordon, who was two days from her 29th birthday, also had roles in The Four Feathers and Serendipity as well as in the upcoming Brief Interview with Hideous Men.

Zach Braff to star in and direct 'Swingles'

According to Variety, Zach Braff is in negotiations to appear alongside Cameron Diaz in the movie Swingles, about a bachelor who loses his wingman and teams up with a woman to help his chances with the opposite sex. The Scrubs star may also direct the project.

Dolla murder suspect is charged

According to MTV.com, a man named Aubrey Louise Berry was charged yesterday with the murder of rapper Dolla. The star was shot on Monday afternoon at the Beverly Center mall in Los Angeles and subsequently died from his injuries at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Stan Lee's 'Nick Ratchet': Writers come aboard

Scribes Douglas Cook and David Weisberg (The Rock, Double Jeopardy) have signed on to write Nick Ratchet, based on an idea from Marvel comic mastermind Stan Lee, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The project will be a mystery thriller about a mild-mannered police officer whose tough online alter-ego, Nick Ratchet, steps out of a video game to take over his creator’s life. Richard LaGravenese (P.S. I Love You) is attached to direct.

Rosario Dawson joins Kevin James in 'The Zookeeper'

Rosario Dawson (Seven Pounds) has signed on as Kevin James’ co-star in The Zookeeper, reports Variety. Slated for a summer 2010 release, the romantic comedy centers on a zookeeper (James) who picks up dating tips from his animals to win back the object of his affection. James was last seen in this year’s surprise hit, Paul Blart: Mall Cop, which has grossed $146.1 million.

will.i.am censors himself on 'American Idol'

Fox didn’t censor the Black Eyed Peas during American Idol, according to the Associated Press. The moment of silence during a performance of "Boom Boom Pow" was singer will.i.am’s idea, apparently to keep an expletive in the lyrics from airing on Wednesday.

Wayne Allwine, voice of Mickey Mouse, dies at 62

Wayne Allwine, who served as the voice of Mickey Mouse for 32 years, died yesterday of complications from diabetes, according to the Walt Disney Company. He was 62. Allwine—who started in the mailroom at Disney in 1966 and won a sound effects editing Emmy for his work on Amazing Stories in 1986—was the only the third man to voice the famous cartoon mouse, which was introduced in 1928.  Allwine first could be heard as Mickey on The New Mickey Mouse Club, and later in Mickey’s Christmas Carol and Who Framed Roger Rabbit, not to mention at Disney theme parks worldwide. His wife, Russi Taylor, has provided the voice of Minnie Mouse since 1986.

'Angela's Ashes' author Frank McCourt treated for melanoma

Frank McCourt, the 78-year-old author of Angela’s Ashes, is currently undergoing treatment for melanoma, his publicist confirmed today. The Pulitzer Prize winner’s brother Malachy reported that Frank’s skin cancer is now in remission and that "he’s survived worse than this." According to his agent, Molly Friedrich, McCourt is "doing pretty well" at home after spending time in the hospital, and is currently receiving chemotherapy.
