Bruce Springsteen to play three shows in condemned Giants Stadium this fall

Categories: Music

During a concert at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, N.J., on Thursday, Bruce Springsteen announced that he plans on playing three shows at nearby Giants Stadium on Sept. 30 and Oct. 2 and 3, shortly before that arena is to be razed, Reuters reports.

The Boss is wrapping up his current U.S. tour, during which he and the E Street Band have played to sell-out crowds around the country. In fact, despite his reputation as a populist performer, fans have complained that too few tickets were made available via Ticketmaster to this week’s series of Garden State shows, and that the bulk of the seats were set aside for promotions and people with connections.

Judge on DVD copying case expected to make ruling soon

Categories: Lawsuits, Movies

On May 21, U.S. District Judge Marilyn Patel heard arguments from both sides of the ongoing DVD copyright case between Hollywood movie companies and RealNetworks Inc. Once she’s issued further evidence, she is expected to issue a written decision on whether sales of RN’s "RealDVD" program can continue. The "RealDVD" software allows DVD owners to copy their own DVDs to a hard drive, but movie businesses are claiming that it violates copyright law and agreed-upon encryption processes.

According to Reuters, the digital media company said it would be willing to rewrite portions of the code to address specific concerns, such as the possibility that users would be able to use the program to make copies of DVDs for their friends."Those are cumbersome ways to make copies and those are not the marketswe are targeting, but yes, it can happen," said Don Scott, a lawyer for RN.

If the ban against RN’s software isn’t lifted, it could help push movie studio sales of digital backup copies. However, if the judge rules in favor of RN, we could see the invention of even more software and devices that allow DVD storage and organization in the near future.
